Location: Iowa Great Lakes | I have one and for big rubber it does fine but I won't cast it all day. It mainly collects dust or lays on the boat deck untill I feel the need to throw 11" Curlies or bigger baits. |

Location: In a shack in the woods | I have an 8'6 and a 9' I really like both but wish I would have bought two 9 footers. They have a stiffer tip on them but can cast all day without problems. I just got them so I only have 1 day throwing gliders for pike but I had no problems with them. For $50 more though you can get the new thorne rod. I had a chance to play with that at the musky expo and was very impressed. The thorne is my next rod. If thorne wouldn't have came out with that it would probably be an mi though. |

Location: Kodiak, AK | Yeah, I guess I just like American-made rods. I like Sage fly rods because they're still in Bainbridge Is, WA. You can tour the shop, take a blank back for replacement and they go in the back and bring out a new section to replace it and you're out the door. |

| I have a super mag bull dawg 8' 6" only have been able to use it once, works good for the double 10's and even lighter bucktails. My 7'6" St. Croix was way to light for double 10"s . Found it at Gander Mountain for only $99.00 I think they were $150.00 at Cabela's Was not marked anywhere on the rod were it was made, might of bought something else if I knew it was from China, should of figured for only $99.00

That's why I don't buy the Triumph series. If all of their stuff gets outsourced I will probably stop buying it. I'm not willing to pay their price for foreign made rods.
I had an 8ft super mag MI rod coming, I scored a super deal on it. I used a 9ft last fall and liked it a lot. |

No, that's ridiculous. I buy American-made when I can and when given the choice. If I'm going to spend $200 on a MI rod or $200 on a St. Croix Premier, I'll buy the Premier any day. I'm not calling for a boycott on anything, just support for American-made products. I've always done well with my rods and reels made here. I usually pay more, but there's a reason why they're the best products out there.

Anyways, I have a 8' MI Super Magnum it's rated for 4-16oz. It seems a little heavy and the cork is a bigger diameter than any of my other rods. It throws a magnum bulldawg nice though. Overall I think it's a pretty good rod for the money. |

What I meant was, if all the St Croix rods were made outside of the US, but still being sold at their current prices, then no, I probably would not buy anymore.
The MI rod I'm getting is brand new from a friend and my price was less than $100. So for that price, I will compromise.
All of my rods but 2 or 3, are St Croix.
Edited to add, I'm not a huge rubber bait fan, but I try and buy the Shack Attack baits pver the MI ones since they're made in the US.

Location: Ontario | All my rods are St.Croix too but I grabbed two of the 9'0 Monster Mags for Opener this year and love them. They took my sales inquiry by email after 9pm on a weeknight and I had the rods within a week. That's my kind of service and I think that's worth noting. If a business can be more profitable while offering me a good product at a fair price I don't care if their plant's on Mars. ( The Global Economy or where they made the lure I'm casting is about the furthest thing from my mind come Saturday mornings, that's just me). The 9'er manhandles Pounders, Mag Suzy Suckers, 13" Bobbies and it also really nice for tandem #16 bootails. I'm going to use the other one as a trolling rod. Its graphite/glass composite and will be great for Plows, Hookers etc with all that length and the little bounce in the tip. On the one I use casting, I busted off the 'art-decco' butt cap within two days. This has also happened to all my Croix rods that I use larger lures with too. They just epoxy on the little cork cup. Filed off the little bit of blank that was poking out so the grip is all one solid piece now. These and the Okumas are the best rods for the money I've seen. The 9' Monster Mag is a load to throw all day but I really like it. I bought them to toss 2lb Dawgs with and that's stretching it a bit. Maybe I'll be in better shape by fall though Haven't hit a muskie on mine yet but have really messed up the wknd for a few pike this year so far. The 9' length alone is really nice. |

| I am a once a year Northern Pike/Walleye fly in fisherman. Allowing for walleye gear, weight is an issue.
The smaller MI rods are listed at 3/4 to 4 oz which menas they should be able to handle a regular bull dawg. ( I know no heavier). Would this work as a one rod NP rod to throw my 3/4 and 1 oz spoons up to the regular Bull Dawg?
I did throw one last year ok on a borrowed Fenwick HMG 7' 3/4 to 2 oz and caught a 43 inch pike.

"Made in China" should be on the Bulldawg rod or tag. I bet if you look its there. It is a legal requirement by the FTC and enforced by US Customs for any product sold in the USA. Also has to be marked on the product at musky shows if the lure or rod is taken out of the packaging. If not, the seller is plain breaking the law and they can be fined huge fines or the company can be shut down. IMO its a good law and lets the consumer know where the product was made. Andy from Shack Attack even went one step further for his lures. He stamps "Made In America" on the tails of his swimbaits. |

Location: SE Wisconsin | Great stick for a moderate price. Brad is great to work with and has been more than generous in helping me out at times. I throw everything from St. Croix, G-Loomis, Okumas and MI, and while I did admittedly have a defective MI rod snap on the forward heave from the backswing, Brad relayed me to the Mfg contact, and backed up that guys cust. service with his own, "If he doesn't help you, call me and I will!" Long story short, I was taken care of, but knowing that Brad stands up for his customers really made me feel appreciated. Currently I have a pair of 8 footers, an 8'6 a 9' and just had Rollie's put a 10 footer on hold for me for pick up this weekend. Versatile, aesthetically pleasing and I love the long handle with the hour glass tapering.
James, while I haven't thrown your stick yet nor met you personally (for some reason), I know you're a real stand up guy and one of the most generous in the industry. I look forward to my opportunity to use your new rod also, I know I can trust it and most importantly, you. |

| The 10' rods have been out for a while and I got one at the 2009 Chicago show. I got another 10' rod this past January at the 2010 show and was told by Rollie and Helens that they were clearing them out. The rod I got was half price and R & H said they did not sell well and they could not ship the rods because of the length. I really like the 10' rods and on rough days it is much easier and safer to do figure 8's. |

Location: SE Wisconsin | I like them for any day/condition. I think it helps to draw big circles with a super long rod in every situation. Starting from the beginning, you can lead the lure away from the boat from further out to a more extensive degree to draw the fish away from the boat before going into the 8. Once in the 8, just having that extra couple feet allows you to make bigger circles when you need to and do it a little further out, plus, when you're fishing deep and your have a submarine below you, it really helps when you want to bury that rod in the water up to your reel seat if need be... Just realize that you have to be the incredible hulk to be doing many one handed 8's with this size rod because of the flex from the length when dragging through the water.
My absolute favorite detail of a catapult like this is the ease it puts into lobbing big heavy baits. The distance of the cast is one benefit, the ease of the motion is the other. Since casting big heavy baits, like dawgs, doesn't require a snap cast, rather more of a lob, a long rod is an awesome tool to get the job done - just be sure to buy the right weight. A stiff backbone with a moderately fast tip is what I'm packing.
I think they may not have sold well because of the original price tag vs. the risk of making such a big purchase without having heard much about them. Most people feel safer buying into a rod they are used to or that isn't far from what their used to, like 8 footers and 8'6. I'm fortunate enough to have a friend with a custom built St. Croix that reaches 9'6 and has really divulged it's advantages. Furthermore, I think about all those surf fisherman, like in Norway, where they use 11' to 12' rods to lob those heavy weights way out from the beach. |

Location: MN | I've have two experiences with the Musky Innovation rods; one good and one bad.
Rod #1: One of the original super mag models from years ago. Great rod and still in normal use today. This rod used to be a pool cue but has softened up and is a real nice stick to throw.
Rod #2: I believe this rod was their low-end model which they sold at Gander (I bought new from a buddy). The rod blew up when I set the hook on a pike; needless to say I was a little turned off by these lower end rods produced by MI. If anyone is dying for details, I can give you the specs when I get home.

Location: Iowa Great Lakes | One thing about the rods we have is the guides wraps need or have been replaced on the 4 we own, 1 broke on a fish. Many seem to like them but IMO theres better out there. Mine has 2 broke/cracked wraps at the moment and on a rod with maybe 30 hours use max in 2 years. It just wears me out casting it since it's a heavy rod. |

What type action is the 10 footer in?
One is a medium action rated 3/4 ounce to 4 ounce and the other is a extra heavy rated 4 ounce to 16 ounce. I am not sure if there is something in between.
