Location: SE Wisconsin | I'm just as excited for the Northern opener as I was for the southern! I'll be in Rhinelander for the weekend. We have several waters to visit, one of which is Boom, another is Big St. Germain, possibly Squirrel, and most definitely a little lake in McNaughton. Should be a great weekend for all, four days for me. Anyone else fortunate enough to have paid vacation on Friday AND Monday?
We have an annual occurance of someone in our group hooking up within their first half dozen casts or so going on three years running. . . It will be interesting to see if the trend continues. We'll have a camera running in one of our boats the whole weekend, so hopefully I can provide some footage. Now that I said that our lucks probably going to flop |

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | Ah yes I’ll be up in the U.P. (not the WI/MI border) starting this Fri thru next Tues. Weather looks to be sketchy with a wonderful cold front on Sat. with lots of wind, and it could have a big impact on the fishing. Hoping I can get a few sore mouthed on Fri. before the cold comes in. Sun and Mon. looks like a bit of sight fishing could be a possibility with minimal wind (less than 10 mph) and sun. Can’t wait!
For the WI opener I’ll be doing my traditional opening morning lake for a few hours, and after that it is up in the air. I don’t fish as hard as I use to during the opener as my daughter is now old enough to fish so we make it more of a family weekend at the cabin, and get some panfishing in with the whole family in the boat. Regardless the musky fishing I do get in is usually pretty productive. Some years it is the same pattern as the previous year, and other years it’s finding a new pattern. No doubt this is the time of year to be the most open minded in my opinion.
By fishing the U.P. opener I get a good indication of what I will be facing for the Northern WI opener, and that aids us greatly in developing a pattern quicker.

That's pretty weak Swenson. First of all, don't admit to it because you'll catch hell for it. Say it was a family gathering and let people assume it was a funeral, putting a dog down, or grandma's 90th birthday. All legit and run less of a risk of forfeiting your man card.
Secondly, I will say that your own wedding shower is a much better reason than let's say...oh, I don't know...skipping a muskie show in order to go to a 5th grade girls basketball game thinking you have a shot at hooking up with one of the coaches.
Finally, the woman I end up with will know some things are sacred. I have made it very clear to my current girlfriend that I will not buy her an engagement ring until I get myself a new boat. If she doesn't like it then it is a good lesson for her in patience. |

Actually, yes, some of it will. Mich/Wis Boundry waters open the 15th. I'll be up on Tenderfoot a good portion of the weekend. |

| Hey Grass,
Just wondering what lakes you plan on visiting in MI. My in-laws live in Iron River and there are some nice lakes near there. I love going there, but haven't been able to get up there for a year or so.

| You'll probably catch a hefty ticket if you're doing that next weekend! Unless you're talking border waters, I suppose...

Location: SE Wisconsin | Don't work too hard in Eagle River, that is the land of the Giants in Wisconsin! Just enjoy the entire thing, start to finish. Enjoy the roads and lack of traffic, the deer in peoples yards or on the edges of town, the quiet lakes and the bountiful fish. Take it in man, you're never going to want to leave. |

Location: Hayward, WI | I've got a lot going on so I don't know for sure which "home" I will be at, but I should either be on a Chippewa County lake or a Hayward Area Lake. If in Hayward, leaning towards Sand or the Chip. Being a holiday weekend, the ramps will probably be crowded wherever I go!

| as for the "thoughts" part of the post... i think i will lake hop until i find a bite somewhere....i think the "key" to opening weekend will be to be flexible, mobile, and staying away from high recreation if possible. |

| I will be fishing in NW Wisconsin. I've never boated a Musky on opening weekend. Hopefully that will change this year. |

| 50" --- your better off fishing a lake that is off the beaten path. Little/Big St Germain are crazy on opening weekend. Maybe the sugarcamp chain would be better or possibly travel up to one of the smaller lake by Manitowish. Just my 2cents. |

Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | Since I already have been fishing for weeks now I think I will let the madness of opening weekend go on without me and probably head up the week after, if the weather looks good. I have a nice run of mobile stops....Park Falls one day, Boulder Junction the next, and then a day or two in Mercer...can't wait |
