| I know guys like the Calcutta's but I don't have 250 dollars lying around. Is this a decent real? Or should I stick with my ABU's? |

| When my Corsair's crapped out on me I sent them to Shimano and they replaced them for free with Corvalus's. Got three of them and there just fine. Acually a little more comfortable that the Abu's Ive had. In that price range I would also look at the Okuma's. Alot of guys on here love them.

| I have three Corvaluses and an ABU Garcia 6500C3. The Corvaluses are worth what they cost. I would guess that you get more distance casting with a Calcutta and I would expect the drag to be smoother. But you won't have any trouble hauling in a fish with the cheaper model. If you buy, be sure to check the screws for tightness. The first one that I bought in 2005 had a loose screw problem. |

Location: Indiana | I tried a Corvalus in the cold and had more problems with it freezing then my C3's using power pro. I don't know if using a braided line that picks up less water would help(masterbraid, spiderwire invisabraid). The reel worked fine other then that. |

Location: MN | When these reels first came out, they had a lot of problems. I used mine for about 3 outings with the gears grinding and screws popping out. Took back to Thornes and they gave me credit to get another reel. They said that they had a lot of them returned. This would have been three seasons ago. I would hope that they would have greatly improved them by now. |

| I had a problem with the first one I bought a few years ago. The store replaced it, and I haven't had an issue since. I own 4 of them now, plus 2 of the Cardiff, which is basically the same reel on the insides. Been used at least 50 days a year for the last 4 years. I have called Shimano for spare parts for general maint., and didn't have a problem getting ahold of them, or getting parts within a week. I recommend these reels to all I fish with, for under $100 you can't go wrong. I also fish up through Nov in SE WI and haven't had any freezing issues out of the norm. If they freeze, my other brand of reels that I have are also frozen. Power Pro line does help with keeping reels working in late fall. It retains less water than your standard braided lines do. I haven't tried other brands, but would assume stealth and etc. etc. that are similar would be the same.

Location: Bloomer, Wi | I have 2 of them and have a problem with the freespool bar sticking down after the cast, then you have to open the side plate and lift up the freespool bar then tighten the sideplate back up. Any one else have this problem and is there a preventive maintence to keep this from happening?
Other than that its a good reel for the money. |

| I've seen fewer problems with the Cardiff reels which are not that much more expensive. |

Location: NE Ohio | I used the heck out of my Corvalus last year- I burned out the plastic line guide thing that goes back & forth... called Shimano- they sent me a new one free. This spring I bought a Cardiff and it seems a little smoother on long casts and more solid- but I have no complaints about either reel. |

Location: St. Lawrence River | I have one accompanied with a 7'6 St Croix avid MH and it throws very nice. Definitely worth the price, one thing I may suggest is going with a power handle on the reel (just my personal preference) |
