Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | Your post is a bit vague, but the trick I use when using heavy cranks or jerks when close to the boat is short severely hard snaps and short deliberate pauses before I try to 8. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I try to 'talk them into it' by snapping the lure and reeling hard a turn on the reel handle so the lure only advances a foot or so after a 3 count pause, then repeat, causing the Weagle to nose down, then explode back up. It works for me pretty regularly. |

| If your normal cadence was zig-zag-zig-zag... try really SNAPPING (give it a big ZIG or ZAG) closer to the boat (EDIT: like Steve said :)). The added commotion might trigger the fish. You could also give it two or three quick snaps and then speed the bait up. The change in cadence speed might trip the fish's trigger.

| I caught one on a jackpot a couple weeks ago! I saw him following a good ways back. so I shoved the rod under the water and started reeling like a wildman. Soon as the lure submerged I watched his whole attitude change and attack it! A small 34 in. male but it was fine with me!

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | It takes some practice, but as soon as you see a fish coming up on a WTD slowwwwww wayyyyy dowwwwwwwwn and try to walk it in place. If you can get the bait to walk only inches at a time you are doing it right. Some baits you can almost walk in place. If this doesn't do it, stop, and let it sit. If the fish stays interested let it sit until it looks to loose interest, or eats. If it is loosing interest start working it again buy a couple quick hops and then a slow retrieve again.
This has worked great for me the last couple of years especially with a Fish Stick HD. |
