I'm looking for information on all the major brands of Sonar/GPS units (Humminbird, Lowrance, Eagle). Features we would like to have in our unit would be: Water temp, Depth, GPS. We don't need the most extravagent model, and would like to go as cost efficient as possible. So who makes the best unit for the best price, with the most features? Thanks.

I have the Eagle Fish Elite 500C. It was a hair over $500 if I remember right. It has depth, temp, speed, takes the map chips, and color screen. It would be nice to have a massive screen, but this one does all I need it to do.

Now that Lowrance has the HD models out you can pick up the std. def models for a pretty decent price. I run the
LMS-522 w/ navionics chips and have no complaints. Great unit and a decent $. I mounted it on the longest RAM arm mount I could find and I'm able to view it from drivers seta, front deck, back deck....probably still have a decent view even if I fell out of the boat. (17" boat helps....when I get my yacht I'll spring for two)

Hey I heard that all lowrance gps units all have pre installed lake maps already in them that people dont always know about, I guess those "Paper maps" guys have some sort of deal with Lowrance to have them pre installed on the newer units, anyone try them out, or have a clue what i am talking about?

I've been selling all the mentioned brands for three years and more and more am suggesting humminbird to customers. We have a lot less trouble with them than with other brands. Also, when I need assistance, they answer the phone quickly. Some other brands take 2 hours (on average) to answer the phone. I have had a lot of customers complain about this. The average person doesn't have 2 hours to sit on the phone.

Diddo to Schuler. After selling all three and using Lowrance, Bird, Garmin, and Eagle.... go with Humminbird.

I'd grab a 788c. It's the most logical choice for what you described, and is a reliable unit too. (well the 787 was, the 788 has minor updates to the screen and funtions) You'll be more then happy with it.
