Some baits Ive finnished the last week. I have a few more colors (alot of colortests when youre new to this) Theyre made out of hard maple, painted with airbrush and Ive used a new lureepoxy made in Sweden, by Anders "Wolfcreek" Ulvforsen for topcoat. The season has started here, and some of these already has teethmarks in them (So I have done something right )
I also have a video of a, close to, 40" fish being caught, but I cant seem to upload here...

Would you care to share your recipe for the hot perch? How did you do the black/silver under-over the orange?
Thanks,

Bruce; regarding the Hot perch: I lay a yellow base, then Irrid. orange. Then I just paint the black stripes. And paint the silver at the end, throug a mesh, and aim meticulously to spray scales on just the black stripes. I use Createx paints mostly.
Heres a picture of the pike I got last weekend on the perch color.

Location: Norway | I finally got the "making-baits-spirit" over me again, kinda stupid time, considering fallfishing is around, oh well. I started a couple of new prototypes, tired of making the same 2 baits over and over again.
1 is a perch sized tally whacker style bait.
I also had a mishapp at the cnc, and made one of my Strap ons a tad to small, and found out that the blank could be used as a spinnerbait style bait, will ad skirt and a grub. Still figuring out the thruwire...
And I also painted some of my regulars, and tried out some prism (calling them Prism Break :P)

The first pic is a deeper, jigging version of my tailbait. The second is another Prism Break (the black perch is going over the pond), the 3rd pic is some CarpVaders that are going to Sweden.

Location: Calgary, Alberta | I like your drying wheel, similar to what many here seem to use but I have a question. When I hook my crankbaits or gliders onto the springs it doesn't matter how tight I stretch the springs, my lures only stay in place half way around the wheel then as the wheel continues up, the lures all go FLOP, & spin back! Needless to say this doesn't give a very clean, continuous finish. Do I need stiffer springs to pull the baits even tighter to get them to stop flopping around?

Location: Norway | Pikester: I you take a close looke at the baits, Ive hooked one of the screweyes straight to the hook in the wheel. The become a pain to get off, but they dont flip and flop. And the bait in the background (the tailbait) I have to tie them down to the frame also.

| All of your baits look great. I've just gotten into building a few myself in that past couple years.
Looking at your baits I noticed the difference in position of your front screw eye.
Does the horizontal position (more unusual) give the bait any kind of different action in comparison to a vertical line attachment? |
|
|
|
| After looking again, I see your regular gliders have the horizontal line attachment and the soft tail and crankbait both have the screw eye vertical.
Why the difference? I imagine you tested and did this for a reason. |

Location: Norway | Guest, I feel I get a more consitent side to side action with the screweye horizontal. I started another model last year (which never happened) where I wanted a more up down side to side action, and I was better with the screweye vertical. I also tried on a Wabull, to twist the screweye, and it completely changed the action. The tailbait, is more of a bulldawg type, and dont have any walk the dog type action, its the tail that does the job.
James; thank you. I have an old calendar with that image, and it was very suitable after the discussion with the Eurogliders (beer in one hand and an airbrush in the other...)

As you can see, Ive altered the Goonitic color a tad more. Gonna keep this one myself, for the "opener", the water is usually pretty stained, from spring flooding...
Guest, give the screweye position a try, especially on the wabull it changed the bait quite a bit.

| I see you made several of the pattern with the large orange spot on the side. Is that particularly productive for pike for you?
You mentioned the glider/jerkbait that has no side to side action because of the tail. I've built a few that have a similar action without the tail and they were among some of the most productive baits I've seen under certain fishing conditions.
I always enjoy looking at your baits. Beautiful work. |

Location: Norway | Thank you FF.
The tailbait I designed to have an extremely shallow bulldawg type of bait. And it gave me a 50 incher last year. The neat thing is that the bait can be reeled really fast without tipping over, with the tail splashing at surface.
The orange dot (and that colorpattern) I got from Mr. Worral, he thought it would be a killer combo on Wabigoon, hence the name Goonitic...

Location: Norway | The fallbite is at its best, but I still cant let go of the baitmaking, Ive gotten a couple of nice fish, in only a few trips this fall, so my shoulders have been lowered abit. Been tinkering with a new crankbait, and wanted to test it before the ice. And after the first trip testing it, it has more bite marks than hookrashes, and that should be a good thing It even got hit when I was attaching the planerboard... Also somepics of a couple of new colors on the StiffBeaver.

I do have a new idea for a crank bait, which I may realize this year. Michael
