Location: In a shack in the woods | my bow mount was working perfect yesterday and then while i was going wide open on level 10 moving to the next spot the prop quit spinning. i could push the button on the foot pedal and it clicked like it was trying to engage and the prop would barely spin. the battery was fully charged. only about 2 hours use on a fresh charge. the motor acted like a dead battery but would still turn the unit fine and the battery was good. could i have a bad cell in the battery? it would still shows it is fully charged when i hit the test button on the motor. |

Location: N.FIB | I had a problem real close to that and had to bring it in to get fixed,it was like a main board inside the unit that needed to be changed. It costed me 150 but if thats the problem on yours you should be able to get it fixed a little cheaper than that. |

Location: In a shack in the woods | Why would mine be cheaper? Where would I take it, to a boat dealer? |

Location: N.FIB | I was told that a place in madison would have fixed it for about 100 bucks,I didn`t know where that place was so I took it to a place in the rockford area where I live.I would take it to a place that does work on trolling motors and certified to work on minnkotas. |

Location: Sun Prairie, WI | In the Milwaukee/southeast Wisconsin area this guy is outstanding. He is a certified MinnKota Service Center and carries all parts and works out of his house and takes appointments and does service while you wait, and will work on the problem right on the boat if possible. His hours are 9am-6pm Monday -Saturday.

Does anyone seem to think I could have a bad cell in the battery or is this a motor problem. The battery seems to hold a charge and was still charged on the trolling motors guage. Is it possible like when my lithium batteries for my handheld gps quit working I can throw them in other things and they work. Could my battery be doing this?

Location: Ontario | Before you buy or replace anything, pull the prop and check the shaft for fishing line. It'll melt the seals, letting water get into the armature of the lower unit, it'll rust and the motor will loose most of it's performance. You pick up line all over the place and never see it. I've never gotten anything (other than weeds sometimes) in my prop and had the same issue as you last spring. I was looking at $800 for a new Terrova but went to an authorized Minn Kota guy close to where I live. The prop shaft was plastered with mono, braid and even some kind of plastic string. The seal was melted into a gob of plastic and the guts inside the lwr unit were all rusted from water damage. I sat there and watched while the guy rebuilt the entire electrical assembly (trolling motors only have a couple main parts, easy to swap out, very surprising) in less than 25 minutes. Mine works good as new now. The new guts costed less than a hundred bucks. The repair shop stocked all the parts and I wound up saving over $700. They are not tough to rebuild. Like I said, the guy did it with a few screwdrivers and a set of pliers right in front of me, good as new. If fishing line is what kills lower units, sand is what kills digital foot pedals. In addition to the prop/power issue, I couldn't make a left turn with mine. He took the pedal apart and showed me where sand had landed on a contact and corroded it, right where the plastic finger depresses the switch. The guy threw in a new-in-box pedal for me also. Total investment in time was less than an hour and under $200. Versus the alternative, I left the shop pretty happy. I guess the lesson I learned is that nothing's really 'fatal' with my Minn Kota, issues are easy to diagnose and the parts can be swapped out if/when the go bad. I thibnk nip-tuck surgeons do the same thing with Cher and Joan Rivers...part breaks down, just pull the old ones out and add a new one. Easy maintenance. She still runs excellent, hope it works out for you. |

Location: In a shack in the woods | I take my prop off every couple weekes and have the whole thing torn apart a couple times. I just went outside and hooked it up. Worked great, I'm not sure now if I should take it in or just hope it keeps working fine. Like you said, Nothing to them. I took the guts from a 36lb bow mount that broke and put them into a 36lb transom mount last summer in about a half hour. I think I'm going to tear into this one. |

Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | I have gone through 4 Terrova 101's in the last two seasons - They seemed to just stop moving at all. The power light was on But no movement at all - I have several pedals, so I thought it may be that... Switched six different pedals, nothing - Finally took it off and had it fixed - A lot of times internal wires snap - Things get crossed - Etc. I have had Cable maxxums that have been bullet proof! But as a guide you really need an electric - I just wish someone would make a sturdy trolling motor. If you are in the walker area, D&D appliance in Detroit Lakes, is about an hour away. Reeds could probably send it in for you. |
