Location: Northern Illinois | Have decided to treat myself to a new rod. Pretty much narrowed it down to a St. Croix Tournament. Will be used for smaller baits: small cranks, smaller swimbaits (spring dawgs, savage, etc..), small bucktails, etc.. Between the Lipstick and the 8 foot MH what do guys think is more suitable. I know the Lipstick has a little more parabolic action and softer tip but out of the two which is best suited for smaller baits??? Thanks.

| The 8' MH for sure. It's a lighter power rod than the Lipstick and has awesome action. In my opinion it's the best Muskie rod that St. Croix makes and truly represents what a 1-3 oz MH 8 footer should do. Perfect for what baits you're thinking about using. |

Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | Both are awesome rods - I would agree with Surf, 8' MH is probably the best model for what you're needing.

Location: Irvine, KY | I have a premier 8' MH that I bought for smaller baits like youre talking about. Its not a tournament, and Im not sure of the similarities/ difference between the two, but I love mine for that application.

Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | That Premier is an awesome rod! There are a few differences between the Legend and Premier models; The biggest difference is the graphite used in the blank - The legend uses SCVI and the Premier SCII. What this means is the Legend uses a higher quality graphite in the blank for greater sensitivity and less weight, thus more expensive. The Premier although heavier and less sensitive, is more durable. The legend also has some upgraded components like reel seat, guides, etc. Lastly, the warranties vary. The Legend has a 5 year warranty, and the Legend has the Limited lifetime warranty.

| Check out the Top n Tail rod. It's made for bucktails and straight retrieve top-waters, but I've used it for many other lures than those. It doesn't have the parabolic bend, and can throw small stuff with no problems. Make sure and gear down the rest of your gear to match the lures. I have one rigged up with #50 line and what would be considered a bass reel I guess. |
