Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | I have begun a long torrid love affair with Spiderwire Stealth. I just got 3 - 1100 yd spools of Camo. Pretty excited to start spooling up! As for leaders, Gene Seuring of Leaders and Lures makes the finest leaders (Wire & Flouro) in musky fishing - if you don't have any, get a hold of him to get some! |

Location: Hayward, WI | I've been having good luck with Cortland Masterbraid in 80 pound. I've used Spiderwire Stealth just a little bit and it seems pretty nice too, but I don't have enough time on it to give it a full review one way or the other.
As far as leaders, I've been making my own 174 pound wire leaders. I'm going to try out some of my 150 pound homemade Seaguar leaders this year too - but I haven't actually bought a leader for a few years.

Location: Yahara River Chain | Cabela's RipcordSI and Gene Seuring of Leaders and Lures 5 muskies on a cable wire leader and I had to give it back to him (it was still good). I have heard up to 50 muskies and a ton of pike on one 21 strand stainless steel leader - now that's value. Also the leaders are rated for the hardware - as the leader itself is so strong. This the same technology used to steer rudders on light aircraft. |

| Stealth leaders on everything; with a knot and a crimp, John makes 'em right.

i'm about half rigged with Spiderwire Stealth and half with Cortland Bronzeback right now. i like the Stealth for my low-profile reels and the Bronzeback for the full-size round reels.
i picked up a spool of Sufix this year to try out on my jig rod, it' looks to be a tight, smooth line and i've heard lots of good things about it.

| Tuff XP with Todd M's leaders. He has been making my floro leaders for casting and trolling for about 5 years now, and I love them. Mike, missed your call tonight. If you'd like Todds contact, gimme a ring. As the best Musky man on DL, we'd love to set you up with a few... I can bring some over with that black and silver GP Thumper AC-10 I owe you.... |

in similar strength/size lines, the Stealth seems to pack tighter and lay flatter for me, so i can get more line on the smaller capacity reels like a Curado. the Cortland seems to be a bit rounder, so it fills bigger spools like the 400TE more quickly and doesn't tend to dig in as much under pressure.

Location: Beaver County, Pennsylvania | from what i experience multi-strand leaders with a crimp and sleeve are prone to failure unlike a solid one-piece .35 dia wire. multi-strand leaders kink too easy and cannot be repaired.
i use 80lb power pro. before that it was all dacron for me. lol |

Not the Leaders and Lures multi-strand leaders. These leader are machine crimped so they do not crush the wire. If it breaks (and that's after a lot of pressure applied) the crimps will not fail. The wire will break 1st and almost always on the leader side not in the loop. These leaders rarely kink bad enough that they can not be used. Both Doug Johnson and Frank Walsh have caught up to 50 muskies on one leader (not to mention a ton of pike). Most likely you have to change snaps before you get rid of the leader. Frank even wedge one in some rocks trolling one fall and manage to get it back and it look like it got the crap beat outta it, but still would have worked. You guys I am telling you these leaders are worth the little extra coin and muskies will not cut them like some of the stories I've heard about floro. |

| Casting - 80# Cortland Masterbraid & 130# Stealth Leaders
Trolling- 100# Power Pro - & 130# Fluoro trolling leaders Stealth Leaders
Live Bait- Hulcano Harness, easiest rig out there plus the most durable
John makes some great 7 strand and solid wire leaders too.
I prefer to use solid wire on my glide baits.
His newest creation for rattle traps is simply amazing- short wire leader with a solid split ring.
Saw John at the Milwaukee show and he is a class act and has great customer service.
Love his tag line- "Clearly the Leader", because they are! |

Location: lake x...where the hell is it? | i use 80# suffix braid and for a leader i will be using my own this season or Gene Seuring's of Leaders and Lures, Clearly the better leaders in musky fishing. IMO the crimp is VERY relieable and they DONT need a knot and a crimp like another brand i saw somewhere to be secure. gene makes them the RIGHT way. |

| I am giving the new fireline braid a try I hope the extra penny for a new line is worth it. It has a little smaller diameter than the ultracast I have been using and hopefully it wont pick up as much water due to being rounder and tighter.

Location: lansing, il | 100# power pro and 100# hi seas grand slam braid, with my stealth leaders.
to each their own, Gene seems to make some very nice leaders as well, and i have heard nothing but good things about them.
just to clarify something: my knot is as secure a knot as you will find, while the crimp does add security so to speak, it is there by design for another reason - to keep the loops where i want them. with the particular knot i use, if anything it will tighten under stress not loosen. i have 100% confidence in that knot alone.
i actually custom make alot of them with the knot only by request and people love em. by placing a crimp on the tag end it leaves enough of a loop to change out a snap when needed. in most cases on our 130 or 150# leaders the snap will wear before the leader does. i dont know if that is "doing it right" or not but it has worked for alot of folks for alot of years. hope this helps clarify any question about why i have both a knot and a crimp.
free to drop me an email direct with any questions: [email protected]
Thanks
John

| i used ultracast all of last year and it was "ok" and i thought it performed much better than the power pro i had used for a couple of years.. the ultracast didn't hold nearly as much water as others i have tried. the only thing that "concerned" me was that when i was initially spooling it on my reels under super heavy pressure the braids actually seperated / came unwound between my gloved fingers and balled up! when i released tension it came back together and i was able to continue spooling it on. that didn't happen under normal line tension when i was using all last season but it still made me "think". earlier this year i picked up a spool of the berkley fireline braid in the store and a spool of the ultracast and compared them side by side. i was amazed at the smaller diameter of the 80lb fireline vs. the 80lb ultracast to the point where i picked up four other spools of the fireline marked "80lb" to see if maybe the first one i picked up was marked wrong! also the weaving of the fireline braid itself felt tighter just running it through my fingers compared to the ultracast. i respooled one of my reels with the new fireline and did an on the water test with another reel having the ultracast on it. identical rod / reel / bait combinations...lunas - 9' croix legend tournaments - regular sized bulldogs. for what it's worth the fireline was quieter, casted smoother, seemed slicker than the ultracast to the point where i had to adjust the cast control tension knob to "hold it back" just a little to prevent backlashes and it still casted farther! the coupled of backlashes that did occure before i made the "adjustment" came out easily. the smaller diameter of the fireline was very noticable as well when i realized how much less of spool-side was showing on the same length cast with both! it held a little less water than the ultracast too. oh, by the way the braids didn't unravel like the ultracast when i initially spooling it on under the same super tight tension! that was it, now all of my reels have the fireline on them.
leaders...90lb multi-strand wire with small cross-lock snaps for smaller baits, 130-180lb fluoro for mid to heavy baits and heavy heavy single strand wire for some glidebait / jerkbaits / etc. for the snaps on those i tried the "norman speed clips" last year and now will use nothing else! heavy duty and they are like using a split ring on every bait without having to use split ring pliars everytime! just my $.02... |

| I prefer Stealth on my four Cardiff 400s; 65# and 80# depending on rod.
As for leaders I got hooked on some floro I bought from Charlie Runion in Delevan, he has an e-bay store. I have used them for two years: 100#, 125# & 130#.
