I need a new unit and i was thinking of getting an Eagle Fishmark 480 for the front of my boat. I don't want to spend a lot of money and this unit seems to get good reviews. any other sonars i should consider before i buy this?

You might want to take a look at the FishMark 640c or Lowrance X510c color units (even the fisheasy 350c). Probably 150 bucks more, but the color is a nice screen and better pixels. I had a b/w on my front and went to a color, it is noticable difference when having to look down all the time for depth and bottom.

I agree with Muskiemetal. But if you're looking at the price range of the 480 as the top dollar that you want to spend, I think that's definitely the best bang for your buck.

If you can find them, the 510cs are on clearence at a lot of places too, so for like $350 or so, you can get a color locator for up there. Shouldn't be too much more.

Here's the 510C on sale at BPS if they have any left. $369

Otherwise a Lowrance X96 is $199.

Just a few options.
