| Here in Maryland, we don't have much Musky fishing, so most of my information has come from boards like this, tapes, books and tapes.This may get of the subject slightly, but these are the most influential of all of them for me. Here are my favorites:
Greatest influence on me for Musky fishing: Muskies, Inc. Although they may not have the best board, best magazine, etc. - they are the greatest. Without them, I would never had learned about the other sources available about Musky fishing. We can thank them for the great sport that Musky fishing is.
Favorite angler/educator: Buck Perry hands down - this man started scientific fishng (structure fishing) as we now know it. His spoonplugging book is one of the best of all time to educate an angler on how to catch any type of fish.
Favorite Musky books: Musky Mastery (Steve Heiting) - a great gem of a book for a very reasonable price. Tony Rizzo's books are all very educational. Danny Wades book - Musky Manual II is the best overalll no-nonsense book that I've seen.
Favorite tapes: I've got all of them, but I think I enjoy the Infisherman guys better than the rest. Not only are their tapes educational, but they are fun. These guys obviously enjoy each others company and have a great time together. Muskies in the shield - another great but pricey book. Jim & Joes tapes are also great.
Most influential on the boards: Capt. Larry Jones. I've also seen Larry up in Harrisburg. I've learned a lot about Musky fishing and equipment from his posts.
Favorite Musky boards (in this order): Musky First, Musky Central, Musky Hunter, Muskies Inc. - all great learning tools
Favorite link - probably the Rocket Man. Good info. with a great sense of humor.
Best Tiger Muskie site -my own. Never seen another dedicated to Tiger Muskies. I'm forever looking for links, etc. about Tigers, but there is very little around about fishing for them. I hope this changes as increased stocking results in anglers learning more about these toothycritters. http://www.muskiekid.com
Overall fishing hero - Al Lindner - great guy. When I view his tapes, it's like watching a friend fish. Same thing with all his buddies.

| You can look around and you wont find too many people with as much time on the water as Dave Dorazio. His Dad was a chip flowage guide, he has been one since he was 10 years old. He has made a living guiding all of his life.
Not only has he caught a ton of fish as well as some large fish in his lifetime, but he is a good educator and can make you laugh all day long. Those talents combined make Dave a very important part of the muskie world. |

| I would have to say joe bucher, cuz I watched him on tv, and also doug stange, I know that's a little lame, but there aren't any famous musky hunters here, But those guys got me into musky fishing. |

| The greatest to me...
Bob Meshikomer.....Nothing but muskies and pike...
He probably is not the most popular or liked "Pro" but he is by far the greatest influence on me.
I've watched him forever and basically he more than any other person or reason is why I'm so into muskie fishing today. Nothing like freezing your end of in Jan. turning on TV and watching someone wrestle with a gator! NET PLEASE!

| I guess I better answer my own question. The most influencial musky angler I know is my cousin Mike. He brought me into the sport guided me to my first one and got me hooked on the sport. Also on the water I have learned new technics from Marc Thorpe and Richard Collin. They are both hard working fisherman.
Pete Maina and Joe Bucher are too guys I look up to...
I think the greatest angler will be the one who honestly breaks the new record. Will all the new size limits hoopefully we will see in the next few years.
Sponge bob also gets the nod for funniest on these boards...

| Enough!!! The only thing I can teach someone is how best to fix grits, BLTs + fill your boat w/ Pay Day wrappers.... you''d have better luck w/ Ray Charles as your guide! I just finished pulling the darts out of our 3x5 wedding photo + she has cut my pic. out + replaced it w/ a pic. of this computer. Actually I think everyone who goes musky fishing should be commended + anyone can discover a trick or 2. Those that impact me are the ones who figure a day out is the MAIN thing + not make it a body count at the end of each day. Each of you guys are or will have an impact on someone....it is up to you as to what kind of impression will be left. Most all are a hero of some type whether it be to a friend, son, daughter etc. The main thing is to enjoy what you do; if it becomes a contest + you lose your focus then hang it up ''cause it screws you up + those around you. I would like to fish w/ all you guys at sometime or another....may be I''ll take a years'' sabatical from the postal work prison + fish all over![:sun:] |

| Chuck Schauer. The man consistantly catches big muskies from the pressured Minoqua WI, waters, and taught me much of what I know(though I've branched off much since). He has seventy plus fish(30 some over 40") this year including a couple 50's from WI waters which definately gets my respect. |

| I''m going to answer this in 3 parts...
In terms of "successes" (despite his transgressions) - Len Hartman. Yep, the guy never got a 60 pound fish, but he sure caught one heck of a pile of 30-55 pounders; more than likely 99.9% of us will ever boat in a lifetime. Heck, the guy was STILL fishing and catching 40 pound muskies at 70 years of age!
In terms of teaching and moulding me into a "thinking" muskie angler - Dick Pearson and Al Lindner. Both of these guys are true innovators. They don''t just want to know something works, but why it works. How can you re-create that success under different conditions? What Doug Hannon is to bass fishing, these guys are to muskie fishing.
Lastly, for making me understand the concept of and follow "percentage muskie fishing" - Mark Windels and Doug Stange. These tactics are just as applicable to trolling as they are casting once you understand the subtleties between the two.

| I will also say Pete Maina. He was the only guy I had ever heard of when I started Muskie fishing. It was also really cool to see him post on Muskie Central. It's too bad he (and others) got driven out of there by a few bad apples. A celebrity is even cooler when you can actually talk to them. Pete is always available at the sport shows.

| I love the joe bucher vidoes, but by far it is the pro's on this board.. STeve worrall, jason smith, richard collins, donnie hunt... they are just a few guys taht have really helped me out on the board and just by reading stuff from these guys and talking to them in the chat I really learn a lot. |

| I think the greatest is whomever respects the sport of musky fishing or just fishing in general. As long as they practice appropriate CPR, respects the outdoors, enjoys the outdoors and teaches kids these values. AMEN![:praise:]

| I think Bob M. fits the description well. Many, Many 50" plus fish. Where would we be without those Jackpots? As far as I know coined the phrase CPR, Catch, Photo, Release. Had a lot to do with the resurgence of St. Croix Rods. He was lucky enough to have them as a sponsor and sold a lot of rods through his TV shows. Catches them on Jerks, Topwater and Jigs. I would say this is very versitile. Besides he and I go back aways and have always gotten along pretty darn well. So I am a little prejudice, LOL. | I think Bob M. is a great musky fisherman, but rarely do you see him fishing Wisconsin and other state waters. Every time I view him, he is on a remote Canadian lake that you don't see to many boats on.
I think Joe Bucher is the best because he seems to produce on any waters he's put on. Almost every episode of his shows are from Wisconsin lakes which deserves respect.

| I think Bob M. has a lot to offer as well. Sure, some people have personality issues with him, but you can't argue with his fishing talents. Secondly, he seems to produce big fish no matter where he goes. He kicked my butt in Rollie and Helens Fall Meltdown a few years ago in horrible fishing conditions (heavy snow and high winds). Not only did he win the tourney in WISCONSIN, but he won it with some BIG fish.
Now, who do I think is the greatest???? That is a tough question to answer since it can be based on many different values. Most fish, biggest fish, most consistent producer, personality, kindness, generosity, etc. are all important. I don't know most of the "big name" people well enough (on a personal level) to make a competent decision, however, I admire BRUCE SHUMWAY for keeping a low key profile while consistently pounding out quality fish for his clients. Then again, guys like Dick Pearson and Doug Johnson are in the same boat. Toss in a few of the more flambouyant (sp) personalities like Pete Maina and Joe Bucher and the top 10 list starts looking pretty powerful.... but to pick just ONE as the best is near impossible. Therefore, I'll go with my GRANDPA as being the greatest of all time. A little biased, but a vote I can live with. |

| I feel that there are a lot for really great muskie anglers out there that contribute to the fishing world. All the names that were brought up in the last post's are some of them.
To pick out just one would be tough. A few additional pick's could be,
Steve Herbeck, he is one guy that put's a ton of big fish in the boat every year, he innovated a great quick strike rig to help in releasing fish unharmed. He is a guy that ever muskie fisherman should try to fish with once in there life time.
This past year, Dale Wiley and his partner dominated the PMTT for the "top gun" award. They where consistent through out the year and caught a fish in every tournament that they fished in. That is a tough thing to do since all the lakes had a different pattern going on through out the year. They where able to change up there fishing style and found and caught fish when the pressure was on. |

| I didn't realize that there was some way to keep "score" in Muskie Fishing...what are the "mesurements"? Is it most fish caught? Is it the most people that they educated in a year? Is it the guy who pushes the most product and gets his name in the magazines the most? Is it the guy who ends up with the most Tournament $$$ at the end of the year?
My point is this, we are talking about a hobby, sport, or obsession.....in other words there is no "BEST" or "GREATEST" in my eyes. But call me crazy if you will....everyone else does.

Don Miller from St.Clair catches & releases over 300 Muskies a year and some Big One's as well.I must also give credit to someone on my own waters,Mark Maghran who is not a guide but has produced some impresive numbers of Big Muskies over the years.A new comer on the block,hes not a guide,Kevin Selders catches Muskies where ever he goes,many Big One's the last few years.

| There seems to be one person that nobody named,my choice for the best is Doug Johnson.He has mad a living fishing LOTW and catching big muskies.His approach to musky fishing is to simplify everyhting and it works! Example; put a lure in front of a muskies nose,if it thinks it is food and is huingry it will eat it.Or fish where the fish live...How much more simple can that be?
There are others I would include on this list.Pete Maina,Dick Pearson,Dave Dorazio ( I agree with Jason on this one),Al Linder, andJoe Bucher. All these men are great musky fishermen and have taught us about the sport we love! From one musky nut to another,THANKS,Paul
