I put 30 lb spider-wire stealth on my abu c3 5500 and it is very hard to cast. (wont go far and not accurate) i have no problem when there was 80 or 65 on it. does any one know if i were to buy a smaller profile baitcaster would it be easier to cast?

for my small baits / light weight musky reel i have using a shimano curado 201dhsv with 7:1 ratio. holds more than enough 80lb / 15lb diameter berkley fireline braid. super light-weight reel that works great for muskies...

I've got a little setup using a gander pike series rod and a curado 200. 65lb tuff line, casts a mile and has great line pickup.

I fish bass on a 5501. I put 30lb. power pro on it and I can cast super light lures (scum frogs, buzz baits, etc.) on it just fine.

Last year and this year I went to the Okuma Induron 250 and find them as good, if not better fit versus the 5500 series from Abu that I was using in the past. I throw baits as small as bomber long A's and bass-sized spinner baits, but also upsize to 6" gliders such as slammer drop bellies and hr shakers and hugheys. Casts smooth and with this set up I prefer to stick with the dual paddles versus the large power crank handles.

if you are trying to throw small baits with it maybe you need a lighter rod, that will make a BIG difference
