| As I read Jason's post there are two kinds of undertaker's, deep and shallow? Mine sink horizontal which do I have? Where can I get each kind? |

| The double wieghted ones are new this year and I know Smokey's has them. I use the Shallow ones more myself, but the wieghted ones are just a bit easier to work.
I have had four clients in my boat this year with Undertakers and they all said they did not work. I asked them to show me how they worked the bait. Everyone of them worked the bait hard and pulled it or jerked it with the rod tip. Trust me I can make this bait swing faster then a Jackpot without pulling it.
The trick is to give the bait soft baby taps in a consitant motion. Palm your reel and just twich your wrist holding your elbow straight. Then you can increase the speed of the soft taps and pitch a change up in the retrieve from time to time. This is where an eight footer comes in handy, you can tap bait and still have good hook set power in reserve.
If the bait pops the surface once or twice during the retrieve thats absolutly fine by me. Thats when they smack it anyway. Often they pop it when the bait goes side to side and then slides down head first for a foot or two. If you get your timing right you can walk this bait through some tough cover.
Down at Cave Run this spring I was zig zaging it through the trees. We moved all are fish on white Undertakers down there and some good fish too. On the Goon me and Worrall were working them through cabbage, and every fish that followed came up on the bait mid retrieve when we let the bait pop the surface.
Good luck, I am sure you will get them working just fine.[] |

| Thanks for the input Jason. I do baby tap them. I got one of them to work perfectly and can't get it back. I know they work because so many people rave about them. I will have to spend more time on it. Great finish on these baits.[:)] |

| ToddM,, did you loose your rythem...Just listen to a couple of rap CD's and you will get it back.[]
Just kidding, try a new one or even better bring the one you are having trouble with up to Smokey's yard sale. I will pitch the bait a few times and see if something is wrong. |

| The Undertaker is really an easy bait to work. If you get too hyper with it, you really lose out on it's great action. I don't really even jerk the rod tip at all. I use the reel and speed it up just a slight bit when the reel handle gets to the point where I am cranking down. You must constantly crank the reel for this method to work. For about every 2 cranks, the 3rd is when I make the lure turn. I do suppose this naturally causes the rod tip to move a little bit. I have had more follows on this bait than any other and I've caught one fish on it. I really like it. It is a confidence bait for sure. Worth throwing it any time of the day, year, and whatever conditions. Have fun working this wood! [] |

| Jason, I was throwing them today. I have two. One works fine and the other one don't. They are great when they work. I have two top-line tackle gliders I am bringing too that don't do anything. |
