I recently purchased a video of a well known musky fisherman, and he claims to be able to smell weeds from weedbeds and tell that there are muskies present. I think this is a little far fetched. What do you guys think? If you know who I'm talking about please keep his name out of it,this isn't meant to bash anyone.

Only videos I think are worth it are Saric and Heiting. I don't know who you are talking about, but who can tell me that they have never had weeds that smell like a musky's slime? I know I have, never proved successful but I have smelled it.

I can tell every fish that has been in them by smelling them. First thing I do when I get to a weedbed is dive in like a duck and come up with a mouthfull of weeds. If I smell musky I fish, if I don't I move on. It get's a little cold in the fall, especially diving in more so looking for green weeds the only problem there is when my pants freeze solid.

What he is doing is smelling the weeds. The weed give off different smell, during there life cycle, and as you and I know, when weeds are healthy the will hold fish, When they die or are in bad shape fish will relate to other structures. Im sure that is what he meant, as far as smelling muskies, who knows. LOL

Smells fishy to me..

My wife can pick up the smell of a muskie at 20 feet......When I come in the door after fishing..LOL[]

I would guess he is joking, I have heard about this one and its must be a joke, because who in the right mind would think that. If that was a case I would put bloodhound in my boat, go around draging up weeds to stick them in the dogs face. If he starts barking, well there is a muskie. Now that would be something![;)]

in the small drains I fish in The Netherlands, I sometimes encounter that the air around drain smell like pike slime. Usually that isn't a good sign because it seems to me that then someone has caught and killed a pike there recently.

If you saw a bubble rise to the surface and it popped and smelled like rotten/digested fish..is it logical to conclude it just might be a muskie fart..??[] []

Seen the video, the guys about as serious as I am..[;)]
