| Hi everyone, was wondering if anybody could give any advice on fishing the french river. I am looking to head up in June sometime for some pike, walleye, and hopefully a muskie or 2 (if there in season when I go). Is any 1 part of the river better than the other?(upper, middle, lower) Any suggestions on a good housekeeping lodge? Any info. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks | |

Location: Milwaukee, WI | I definitely liked the lower French better than the middle. Because it had more variety of structures to fish. The weedbeds there seemed more "fishy". Lower French has more sunken wood too. We stayed at Bear's Den and we had American Plan, but our cabin had a full kitchen. I liked that place alot. Brenda & Art provided good musky advice about the region. And Art is a very good cook in addition to his impressive musky background.
Have looked at the upper French on a map and it looks like it could be good too. That is, the upper part that includes Lk. Nipissing. Have heard good reports about Lunge Lodge. Hope to fish there someday. | |

| Thanks snaggletooth! I will look into the Bears Den. Where did you find the map, and is it fairly detailed? | |

Location: Milwaukee, WI | The map I saw is available from Canadian Hydrographic. It is a one of the Lk. Nipissing map set. Southwest portion of the lake.
From what I know, there are no hydrographic maps for the middle and lower French river. But, there are good surface maps available.
FWIW.......each portion of the river has some deep spots too. Over 100ft.
And if you are going to that region in June, BE SURE to bring insect repellant with DEET and adequate clothing (long pants, long sleeve shirts, even hat w/face screen). There are some world-class, ninja-grade biting flies there in the spring.
