im wanting to set up a rubber fish in a pond and be able to "catch" it later in the day while some people are there. i was thinking about setting up a line from it and trying to snag it somehow. anyone got ideas on how this could be done haha.

thanks

I dont think I need to say now wierd that sounds. But you can put one out there and tie heavy line to it mono, run the line back somewhere with a stake still in shallow water or up to the start of land, the line will sink, so will the fish, when your ready tie the line to the end of your line on the rod and reel it back in.

ha, that might work, i really want to cast out and and be able to catch the line so it looks like i caught it on the cast. im thinking of setting out a small bobber or something that i will be able to try to hook onto to. any other ideas.

btw its part of asking girlfriend to prom, im gonna take her fishing and try catch the fish and its going to have "prom" written on it. so i hope thats not too wierd ha. but im doing it cuz its not like everyother way which involves balloons or painting their car windshield.

Clip a small bobber to the end of the line? Drive a little stake into shallow water in a place you can easily find and pick the line up there? If you do this, you need to video it and show us.

I'm thinking a lure with a magnet on it, and a magnet somehow attached to the rubber fish by the mouth. When you cast out (knowing where the fish is) if the magnets are set up correctly, they will attract. With a hook on the end, if you have a loop of some sort that the hook can catch, it could be as easy as that.... Definitely would want to practice it a bit, though...

OK, you sucked me into this silly conversation.... Why not buy a toy remote control submarine and stick it inside the rubber fish?

Then, you can get a "follow" and hook the fish at boatside. I'm done now, this is getting too weird.

Fishformusky,
I asked my girlfriend to marry me by writing "will you marry me" on a little fish cutout I made and hooked to a tip-up (she said yes). In my opinion, if she gets a kick out of something like that, she might be a good match for you. If she thinks you're a loser because of it, then she might not have been the dream girl for you!

OK, I'm in., But do need more detail. Will you be fishing from a boat or from shore/pier. If you will be on the shore I would say pull the ole bait and switch. Two rods. One with the rubber fish already attached and cast out, rod hidden in a nearby bush/pile of leaves. When shes not paying attention (Common trait in most wo....uh, I'll stop here) switch to the "Fake" rod and hoep the fake fish didn't get snagged on the bottom...or eaten by a muskie. If your like me and always carry two or three rods with you this should be easy to pull off. If you are in a boat that starts to get tricky. I have to think more on that one.

This is funny because I have been talking about this for awhile now. My scenario was a bit different, pretend to catch it amongst a big crowd and them completely manhandle it.......

Go to youtube and search "trigger happy tv" and look for a clip of a guy fishing. They pretty much did what you want to do on that show.

Why don't you just go with the message in the bottle thing! Put a clear bottle with your message in, out in the middle of the pond and let her find it and read it! BTW...Does your aunt and uncle know your cousins goin fishin wit you? LOL

Haha....this is the best post I've read in a long time. Hope the people in the library don't mind me laughing out loud! I kind of like Pointer's idea; but that didn't work out all that well for me, so I might advise against that if you'd like to keep your girlfriend.
I will be back on after class to read the other replies and maybe put a few tips in myself.
