Just got my off shore planer from R/H's and the intrustions say it works best with 10-12 lb mono. My questions -- Will it slip too much trolling bucktails with braided line ? My aim is to get to lure away from the boat , I don't troll very fast and won't be trolling any deep divers , If I wrap the line around the clips will this work well enough or should I order the more heavy duty clips ? Thanks ManitouDan

Dan:

I would suggest the heavier clips, then if the line still pulls out, you can wrap it around the back clip. May not snap free on a strike, but worst case senario is that you will have to remove it while fighting a fish. Better to have a hook-up and have to remove it than not to hook-up at all!

Dan,
You can also sinch a rubber band on your powerbraid, then put the loose end of the rubber band in the release clip, will stretch with the waves and not pull out till you have on the fish, then the rubber band will break releasing your inline planerboard. Capt. Larry

Dan,
I use the Off Shore board and I use the big clip's.
I run 25 pound mono with out a problum. I would not wrap the braided line around the clip, you might knick the line and get a weak spot there.

Hey guys-- Thanks so much for the quick reply -- I'm a real greenhorn on this topic and I'm thinking if I can learn how to use this approach I can up my odd's at those clear water Manitou ski's. I think I'll rig me up a trolling rod with 25 lb clear mono , instead of wraping the line or trying the rubber band method, Maybe after I learn how to use the mono correctly I'll experiment with the braid , The braided line weakens so much with any little nick I think I'll go mono ! At 20 bucks or more a spool I don't want to waste any line. Thanks again for sharing the info -- ManitouDan

I use the mr. walleye church tackle boards. I have an offshore but it's not as easy to work with and take on and off the line.
