I want to make some size 12 double blade spinners. Can I make these with .51 wire or do I need thicker wire? My bender only goes up to .51 do I need a bigger bender and if so where can I get one?

I've been making my own spinners since I started muskie fishing, and I have never used a tool. I form a loop by wrapping the wire around a nail that is driven into my tying bench. After I form a circle, I grab it with a small pair of visegrips and just wrap the end around the shaft with my fingers and then trim the end. Doing it that way you an use any size that you want.
For tying big double-bladed spinners, I would use the wire that just fits through the hole of the components that you're using. Thicker, stronger means harder for fish to bend it out of whack.

i use .062 wire for all my baits. i am pretty sure that no one makes a bender for that big of wire...yet. i like the bigger wire for the big blades and it helps to keep them from bending when casting them alot. i also use a nail but put it in a bench vise and use a pair needle nose visegrips to grab the wire and wrap it. if you want to know more let me know. i have made about 120 this way. good luck!
