Location: The desert | Not sure if old Jonnysled still guides at all, but I fished on Kentuck with him for a day. He was a lot of fun to fish with and showed me some great spots. Good guy, and I'd recommend him if he still guides at all, but don't ask him about the Packers, he doesn't know much about them. |

Location: Southern W.Va. | Tony Grant guides in that area in the summer and has caught some pigs there, wrote about it in Musky Inc. a few years back. If you fish with him you won'y regret it.

| #*^@ that is a beautiful fish! I'll be trying Kentuck this year too. An experienced guide sure would help shorten the learning curve when it comes to new lakes. |

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | Do your homework is what I would like to add. I'm not going to tell you to pick me as I fish differently than the others for the most part. The others fish differently than each other as well, so each guide has something different to offer.
That said there are lots of options for Kentuck. Do your homework to determine which guides fits how you want to fish it, or perhaps a guide that does something completely different than you and you want to learn that as well as the lake.
Guides I suggest other than myself:
Shane Mason - shallow and deep
Dan Lazeroni (Dannyboy) - mainly shallow water I believe
Paul Klein - Almost strictly suspended/deep
Myself - I do mostly suspended/deep with some shallower thrown in depending on day.

Location: Medford, WI | Haven't personally fished with either, but have watched both catch quite a few fish... Mark Lijewski and Travis Kopke. As Travis mentioned, each guide does his own thing and that should be something that you should look in to. Also, what time of the year are you going to be there?
PM me if you have any questions about the lake/surrounding lakes.

| Either Mark Lijewski or Tony Grant. I have fished with both and they are both tremendously accomplished fishermen that know that body of water in and out. |

| I'd have to put my vote in for Travis Kopke as he knows and does very well on this lake all year.

| I have guided on Kentuck for the past 6 years, during June and July. I have only missed a hand full of days on that lake during that period with 41 hybrids over 40 and 27 over 45. Last year my clients had tigers of 44, 46, 48.5 and 49. Also boat many trues during that period. If you don't see me on Kentuck you don't fish it much. I have a true passion for that lake. however Mark fishes it completely different than I do and he is The Best. I don't see many other guides out there very often.

Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | Tony Grant all the way. That dude fishes the lake way more than anybody I know during that period of June and July and catches some really really nice muskies and BIG Tigers. Back in the day when I used to travel to WI with Tony, we would fish that lake many times a week and there were many days when there would be only 3-4 boats there, usually walleye fishing. I understand that the lake has gotten a little bit more busy than in years past, but still Tony's big fish catches are hard to pass up. |

| I'd go with Lijewski just to learn how he fishes the lake differently than the other guides. |

Location: Wausau | I have fished with Travis and would recommend him, he knows way more than I do about the lake. I also agree that Mark would be a good choice, but I have not fished with him personally.

| No question, I'd go with Tony. That man knows how to catch them on Kentuck, both tigers and pures. He's helped my dad and brother both catch their largest muskies ever from that lake - a 47.5 tiger for my brother and a 48.5 tiger for my dad. And I lost my biggest on that lake fishing with Tony as well. Plus, few guides teach anglers as much as he does. I've known him since I was 13 and I credit a lot of my knowledge to him. He's just a knowledgeable and enjoyable person to be around for a day on the water. |

Mark Curtis (Nephew of the legendary gene Curtis)
i got the pleasure of meeting Mark at the landing about 10 years ago and learned a lot about the lake from him .. a great suggestion. do you know is Gene still doing a lot of fishing? for that matter George Langley would be another with a ton of history on Kentuck and i think Bill Jacobs would be another good choice. |
|
| |
|
| I have to agree with Mark as well. He knows the lake very well and stays on top of whats working out there.
Sled, as far as I know, Gene is living full time down in Ft. Meyers. |

Location: WI | I would have to say Travis Kopke would be my choice.
I pretty much took this lake off my list, not much fun to fish anymore, still has nice fish. But once they black topped the road and someone threw it under the bus a few years back, bringing the masses, it just hasnt been nearly as much fun. And now the weeds taking over, just doesnt do it for me like it once did. Lots of great lakes in the area that you dont have to fish in the "bread lines", I fish those lakes instead. |
|
| |
|
| I agree with Shane.
I have zero desire to fish this lake with all the pressure it gets. Sure there are nice fish but there or plenty of other lakes that don't see the masses that have just as many big ones.
I'd hire Lijewski if I had to pick one. |
