Just wondering if there was a better way to run the trasducer wire down to the trolling motor mount. Currently I just have a zip tie at the top of the motor and the wire just hangs there. How do others do this without universal sonar, or am i the onlyone without it?

I'm pretty sure that you can buy a bracket that goes on there. I maybe wrong but I thought that I saw something at Dorn's on Midvale last friday that would work. You could try giving them a call, the person who works on the trolling motors is there Tues and Thur last time I checked.

You can buy the bracket to mount on the bottom of the motor. Basically just a bracket with a big hose clamp on it. I got mine at Cabela's for like $10. Works great.

Depends on the type of the trolling motor you have. If you have a cable drive motor, you can zip tie the wire to the shaft in a few places so it doesn't hang loose. But if you have a trolling motor that uses motor steering (powerdrives, terrovas, etc), there's no really good way to do it. The wire will hang loose between the zip tie and the motor unit self. It works fine that way, and as long as you don't have too little slack or too much, you will be perfectly fine.

Just adjust as necessary....too little and you won't be able to turn, and too much and your prop will clip the wire when you start moving forwards. And be sure not to tighten the zip ties too tight at the top. If you do, you'll gradually see the zip tie work it's way through the transducer cable once you "accidently" steer your motor around in a circle too much a few times. So you want it to give a bit so you can adjust and so it doesn't wear away at your cable. There's not really a better way to do it, and really it works perfectly fine.

Hope that helps!

Here is the mount you need. You can also drill a hole in the skeg of the motor and bolt it right to that. However, it's way more exposed to rocks when your in shallow water. By using this mount, you can put the transducer behind the skeg that kinda plays as a blocker to the transducer. But I agree with Halfpint, rig it the way he says, that's about the only way you can do it with a Powerdrive, Terrova, or a Motorguide Wireless if you don't have the universal sonar.

I can't add much to what has already been said but once you have the cable zip tied at the top run the rest of the transducer cable around the cord coming from the trolling motor head (if power drive style). This cleans up some of the extra cord on its way to plug into the sonar unit itself.
Good to see someone from Sun Prairie. I was born and raised in the groundhog capital of the world.
