Just picked up a Luna 300, Nice !
Is there anything special I should know about it ? I.E. cleaning, lure weight limit,
any tips or bewares of the sort ?
I'm not going to be throwing DC-10's & DCG's , It will be used for Grandma's , cranks, bucktails like the Mepps muskie killer and the like.
I know alot of you guy's throw them so I figured I would ask. I'm not trying to start a "best reel or you should have bought a bla bla bla" war here, just want any helpful hints on this luna. It hasn't seen water yet however I did take it out back and cast a 1/2 ounce splitshot around like nothing !! thanks..

I've found no weight limit with my Luna. I don't throw 2lbers with it (because I don't throw them whatsoever), but I do throw double-10s and mag dawgs with no problem. I use mine primarily to throw medium bucktails, cranks and big top H20, however, and find it to cast like a dream, effortless retrieve. Still 100% after and a season of abuse.

I have two of them and like them alot not to mention Daiwa's service is second to none. I use them for just about everything. I hear the ar bearings go out on them but after two years the only problem I had was the foot came loose on one of them, I sent it to Daiwa and they replaced the frame cleaned, lubed, and updated with extra bearings and I had it back in about a week, covered by warranty to boot. If you grease it do so sparingly, if you use it in cold weather with the drag tightened all the way be sure to keep an extra roller clutch in your tackle box, if it ever whines during the cast unscrew side plate (opposite handle) and put a drop of 3-in-1 on the screw holding the idle gear. They are fantastic reels and I doubt you'll ever have any problems with them.

great bucktail and straight retrieve topwater reel.

If you are doing any ripping, twitching, jerking, I would suggest using something esle. Anti-reverse blows out pretty easily on them.

I used them for gliders last year and had no problem, but I don't work them real hard. Used them for rubber too. Especially nice and smooth for working rubber. I enjoyed throwing cranks with them too. Good rate of retrieve for cranking shallow or deep.
Good reels. I have heard of anti-reverse problems but I haven't experienced any. On a positive note, Daiwas service is exceptional.

Used one of a friends for several hours this weekend on Cave Run, awesome reel. He has 2 and uses them for everything in the box and hasnt had any problems after a year. I tried out a DCG on it to see for my self and it was effortless.

I will warn you however.... the only problem I know of is how addictive they are. Especialy those big paddles. Youre likely to be forking over another 270 bones for a second one. I wanted to kill my-self when I had to pick up my abu's again lol.

Mine had/has an anti-revearse bearing issue going out, and I know of a lot others with the same issue. Not much different than any other real I've use so far though as I rip a lot of cranks. If this happens you can tear it down, wipe off the excess oil as best as you can, and apply just a very little bit amount of oil on the sleeve that rides inside the bearing. This will fix it for awhile.

Mine also had a bearing rusting issue after two months of use (terrible squelling when casting). Sent it in, and apparently not covered under warranty. I personally didn't have very good customer service with them.

A nice reel when it works though.

I also didn't have very good customer service.

Sent in 4 reels are less than 6 months old, all with anti-reverse issues. They sent me a bill for $125+ dollars. I thought these reels should be covered under warrenty, but I guess not.

This past weekend I grabbed a new Luna, straight out of the box, put line on it and went fishing. After about 4 hours of fishing, the handle started spinning backwards while pumping dawgs. I'll be selling mine, I have 5 of them and I haven't had one last me longer than a month. It's hard for me to understand how they can sell a reel for $240 or whatever they sell for and I have issues with them within hours.

Not a happy customer....and yes I have contacted Daiwa about this and they didn't want to do much as far as helping.

The roller clutch is the anti-reverse "bearing". Just order them from Daiwa. The reason they fail is to keep gears from busting off when the drag is cranked down and you're reefing on it. As far as the whining when you cast, refer to my post above, if the oil doesn't fix it then order a new idle gear.

Flambeauski, mine squealed something fierce prior to sending it in. Daiwa told me the bearing was rusted. Being they charged me for the bearing, cleaning the reel, and shipping I highly doubt it was a gear issue that they replaced for free. Since they replaced the bearing it hasn't squealed yet.

I also don't run my reels with the drag locked down tight.

Bad luck I guess.

My anti-reverse went out within the first week that I started using it. Will not buy another one.
