| Hi, I'm going to start using an anchor more regularly for fishing spots in high wind. I've bought a hundred feet of 2/3" rope. I'll probably just coil it when not in use and stow in a compartment, but I thought I'd ask if anyone has come up with any nifty storage ideas for rope, to keep it more organized. Some sort of spool perhaps. Ideas? [:)] |

| I have a Carolina Skiff...I bought 2 steel hanger hooks + epoxied them about a ft. apart on the side wall at the rear of the boat + wind the rope length wise...works great for that type of open boat. The hangers are the kind w/ 2 screw holes at the top + are hook shaped, fairly large from the hardware store. |

| If you have a "nice" boat I'd try to find a less primitive method than what I did...it works but won't attract chicks or Better Home + Garden types....[:sun:] |

| I coil mine up and use velcro straps similar to RodSavers to keep it in nice coils and store it in a compartment. Any exposed rope in my boat seems to act as a hook magnet. I use those velcro starps for my dock lines and launching rope too.

| Here's an easy and cheap way to take care of the problem that my Granda told me. Just get a bucket a little bigger then an 1 gal icecream pale. You can cut the sides down if you need to and when you pull your anchor up just start feeding it into the bucket. When you drop anchor, just start pulling it out (don't "throw" your anchor out.) Do that and you'll never have a problem and the rope is out of the way (not getting hooks stuck into it.) |

| I wind my Anchor Rope up on a plastic extension cord reel,winds up with handle,like a miniture garden hose reel.When you put the Anchor out,just hold the reel by the base and let it unwind as the Anchor drops to bottom.Also they hold 150 feet of 5/8" rope.Home Depot for $5.95!

| Ask GregM about his setup. He has got a neat little do-hickey that mounts inside an unused storage space the winds up his rope with a spring or something. He told me where he bought it, But I forgot.

| I had problems with anchor ropes all the time. I carry two anchors in the boat but don't use them too often. So when I did haul them out of the compartment, the ropes would be tangled beyond belief.
I used some 1/2" plywood and a jig saw to make the rope holders that I now use. The concept is similar to the extension cord holder that someone else suggested. I use stainless gripper cleats to hold the anchor rope when I do drop anchor. These things work great.
When I made the rope holders, I drilled a hole in the center, ran the rope through and knotted it on the other side. Now, when I'm out and need to anchor, it's really simple. Grab the rope holder in one hand, the anchor in the other. I can feed out as much anchor rope as I need, the rest stays neatly on the holder.
An added benefit to the plywood rope holders is that if something blows overboard and you have to use the motor to get it, it's simple to undo the rope from the gripper cleat, throw the anchor rope overboard and go get the item. Then you can return to the original location and simply reattach the anchor to the cleats.
