| it's time for another of our popular contests!
Jim Reuter of Trophy Hunter Accessories has provided a great lineup of his Glittertails for you to win.
these are solid bucktails that have put many big fish in the boat during development. they're made with high quality components, and available in any color combination under the sun. they feature a jointed split-ring design so that hooked fish get less leverage and also allows you to mix-and-match your blade and skirt combinations.
http://glittertail.com/
talk to Jim to order your custom built baits today:
Phone: (320) 986-2415
Email: [email protected]
they will also be available at the following booths during the MN Expo:
Musky Stalker (Dave Williamson)
Pro Musky Guide (Josh Borovsky)
Ace Guide Service (Terry Sjoberg)
as for the contest? it will be a picture scavenger hunt:
- you'll be asked to find a photo that features a certain item or event
- EACH person to post the right picture will be awarded the point, with NO REPEATS
- points will vary depending on difficulty
- there will be 8 rounds
First Place: complete set of lures
- heavy double-10 Glittertail
- light double-10 Glittertail
- double-8 Mini Glittertail
- double-6 Baby Glittertail
Second Place: matching lures
- heavy double-10 Glittertail
- double-8 Mini Glittertail
Bonus: this will be randomly awarded to a non-winning person who posted at least one picture during the contest
- light double-10 Glittertail
have fun!

btw everyone: for the love of God, please RESIZE your pictures to 600x400.
maybe i'll have to assign penalty points for oversized pics...

Location: Medford, WI | Ooooh comeonnnn now!!!! I'm just a poor college student trying to be creative here...I even researched what the biggest fish in the world was and took the time to make a (one) picture...you did ask for a picture (definition: any visible image, however produced) and not a photograph. I wasn't trying to fool anyone that I photoshopped it, it's way too obvious...so I wasn't trying to cheat at all.
Please reconsider..... |

| Round 5....harder...
during Joe Bucher's show this morning he featured two pike/muskie segments.
during the first segment he showed how he uses spinnerbaits in the shallow slop.
MuskieFirst outings have occurred on this lake; post a picture of a fish caught on this same water by a MuskieFirst member...
first right pic = 10 points
second right pic = 7 points
go!

you can order from the many cool stock colors of Glittertails, or get imaginative and create your own. i recently had some made up for me, a couple of my favorites are shown below: "Ironman", "Whitefish", and "Eyesore".
there are 25 different colors of skirt material to choose from. if you were to order a custom bucktail using 3 different skirt colors, how many possible skirt color combinations could you create?
1st correct answer = 15 points

Answer = 13,800 Possible Skirt Combinations of Glittertails
I teach 6th graders and they loose points if they don't have labels.

K
p.s. - In Round 4 - the challenge used the word "EACH " - which leads one to infer that they would then earn 2 points for each picture of a species other than a muskie/pike..... and the challenge listed bonus points for largest and smallest, tempting those point mongers like myself to think that one may earn multiple points with multiple pictures.... hence my EPIC Goldfish Idea - I'm guessing no style points this time eh? - but leaving the computer to slay the crappies on Saturday was the price I had to pay.

4 40% a 40% b 20%c
and so on. so it is not endless but if i can use any percentages of material i need to know exactly how many strands of material are in play.
since you did not specify that you have to use equal portions of skirt material i think i have made the point it is a number incalculable with the information given

I've got to go out on a limb here with my answer...although, it does make sense according to the wording of your question. You ask how many possible skirt color combinations you could create using 3 different skirt colors; however you didn't specify exactly how many skirts could be used on the bucktail. Here's an example:
My three different skirt colors are: 1. white 2. black 3. gold
With these three different colors of skirts, I could make an infinite number of skirt color combinations (2 black skirts, 1 white skirt and 2 gold skirts is just one example).
The math major part of me says that 13,800 is the correct answer, but the musky fishermen in me says that I need to try anything to win these baits!!!

2,300
25! / (3! x 22!) = 2,300
correct! there are 2300 possible combinations, and that is the proper formula.
count on a teacher to get it right!
the key is recognizing this as a permutation/combination problem.
the difference is that in permutations, the order the items are chosen in matters; with a combination the order does not matter.
in this case, the order does not matter (white/black/red is the same as black/red/white in a bucktail skirt...), so it's a combination. i tried to give a clue to this in the question by asking "how many skirt color combinations..."
SO...the next time you want a lure that "the muskies haven't seen before", give Jim a call and make your own up. when you start to add more than 3 skirt colors, plus the variations with blade size and colors...it's endless!

| I guess since his skirting material is mixed this would be correct. If you were just using solid colored skirts I would argue that color placement wouldn't matter. A skirt that went white/black/red would look different than one that went black/red/white.......dang. |

| I have three points. Even the first place answer here wouldn't get me in the running. So I'm taking one for the team here and posting the first answer:
The reason I need these lures, is: I don't. I don't need most of the lures I already have. But these look really cool, and I like shiny things. (why do you think I have more lures than I know what to do with?)
If I were to post a picture of my most miserable looking worn-out bucktail, I'd also have to admit that I have two others just like it, brand new, in the box, which I bought just in case this one should ever become unfishable.

I need one because this one is flawed, it's setting is obviously broken - it's stuck on 'smallmouth'.
I'm pretty sure a 'muskie' one would solve some of my problems (but admittedly, not all of them...)

I can’t say that I deserve these Glittertails anymore than the other fine folks participating in this Muskie First endeavor. It certainly has been fun while it lasted. Thanks Jim. Thanks Lambeau. Thanks M1st.
However, as a teacher and a father of 3, I have had to change some my financial priorities away from the typical off-season Muskie related purchases. (Translation – the Missus put the smack down.) I’m not ashamed to admit it – I love my wife and would love to see her expression when a Tackle Package arrived and I could tell her the perceived vs. the actual cost…. I NEED these Glittertails because I need to teach my wife a Lesson about inconspicuous Online Ordering. FREE is good. (Translation – I wanna wear the pants for a while.)
Said wife gave the bucktail in the photo to me for my birthday about 5 years ago. It a LOTW “ go to” of Black w/ Silver blade – however the hair on it is disappearing like the hair on the head of my best fishing buds. (Sorry about the Vertical hold and sorry about the shot @ my boys.)

| I would like some Glittertails because I am new to the sport and I am still building my "arsenal." These baits look bad@$$ and the best part is they are interchangeable. I also like that he offers different weights as well. Attached is a picture of the only bucktail that I have actually caught a fish on so it doesn't look too sorry and worn out, but the fish kind of bent the clevis so the blade doesn't always spin right. Wow....I look kind of creepy in this picture.......

This is a pretty beat up bucktail but I don't know how it happened I think I seat it down in something and it hasn't gone back to normal since and that was over the summer so that was a 25$ bucktail that I ruined so hopefully I can get a couple to make up for that. |

Location: Minnesota | I think that this bucktail is about as ratty as they get and still fishable. This bucktail has caught many muskies for me and I can't bring myself to replace it yet since it still is functional even though there is hardly any hair left. I don't have 3 of each color of each bait to fall back on.
I don't need these new Glittertails any more than anyone out there - the real reason I think I should be given these Glittertails is so I can show my wife that there are some benefits to me "always on that musky website". She gets about as annoyed with me being on M1 as I do with her on facebook.
Anyways - thanks for the contest - it has been fun and something entertaining to do while we wait for open water to fish. Those Glittertails definitely look like they are worth the effort for trying to win them.
