Location: Lockport, IL | What is the first lure you reach for the first time you hit the water in the spring? I have heard a lot about the slow approach using reapers, creatures, jigs and other lures of that type. I have also heard of the guys that go out and start bombing big blades right off the bat. What do you do? Does it depend on certain factors? |

Location: Ogden, Ut | I usually grab one of the new ones I managed to acquire over the winter. Irrespective of it's likelihood of being the best choice or not, it's just too hard for me to overcome the 'new toy' effect.
My first day on the water is exceedingly fun, but usually anything but productive! I can always be serious later...or can I?

Location: madison wisconsin | I'm gonna do something different this year and throw dbl 10's. I bought some new spanky baits this winter. If nothing, I'll try some big joe's. I'll try big instead of small this year and see what happens. |

| I'll be throwing some dbl 8 spanky baits that I picked up at the shows as well as a couple new phantom softails. If all else fails, I will resort to the baby DRs. |

6" Phantom (Squirrely version), Hellhound
Mepps Marabous, #6 Musky Bucks, M&G Buck-a-bou
Suicks!
7.5" Grandma, 8" Slammer, 6" Cranes, Shallow Invader, 10" Kickin' Minnows
And last but not least... Top waters of various kinds
I don't really focus a lot on lure size but really the fact that I am most likely going to be fishing shallow water and need something that fits the bill. |

Location: New Brighton, MN | I like smaller cranks, like the 6" jake, also single blade bucktails and spinnerbaits. Slower baits like hellhounds and other gliders seem to get good attention too. I have nowhere near enough patience for jigging on opener. I'll probably switch baits every 10 casts |

Location: Hugo, MN | I usually start the year throwing Regular Shallow Dawgs, Stompers, Shallow Invaders and spinnerbaits. I also throw whatever I bought or built over the winter, just to see how they run. Last year I threw a LOT of double tens early on and all I got for my efforts was tendonitis. I'm going to try to avoid that this year. |

| husky jerks- and sometime 6" floating rapalas --these things are deadly in the spring. I normally catch 10-20 muskies in the first two weeks of the northwoods fishing season. I use heavier bass gear to get the best action.
Otherwise I use some Home-made bucktail/mister twister lures, normally good for a couple every spring. |

Location: Black Creek, WI | I'll grab a Baby Depthraider and a 1.0 Oz. Little Shot Spinnterbait. Those two lures cover most of the bases for that spawn/post-spawn pattern we typically start the season with. |

Location: 412 | I second husky jerks - I seriously love them. I wished they made big musky sized ones - with that said what are some bigger sized lures that imitate husky jerks action?

| I really like the rapala Xrap 14 size (largest one they make) as a larger rapala altermative. They suspend very well.

| I wish they made larger husky jerks for spring musky fishing, The shine/color coupled with the action is deadly. The only problem I see with husky jerks is that they tend to wear out, after catching several fishing they do not run the same. The weak light weight metal bends to easily. Hopefully they will someday come out with a larger heavier built JH is the near future. Something like an HJ-20(8inches)

Is it legal to take panfish and use them for bait? I have always wondered this question but never knew the answer to it. If u catch a perch or bluegill can u use it as bait for the skis. |

Location: Iowa Great Lakes | Hellhound, DDD, Super D, Wades Wobblers and Cowgirls will be my baits of choice.
Here in Iowa it is legal to use gamefish as bait as long as it caught in the same waters its being used in and counted to your daily limit. Bass, pike, perch, gills whatever.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Opener up here is Memorial Day Weekend, so surface baits will be in play big time. Spinnerbaits in the slop, a selection of bucktails, and some plastics. Cranks where they apply. Pretty much what I'd throw anywhere very late Spring to early Summer. |

Location: Alexandria, Minnesota | I used hear that you should only use small lures early in the year, but I have actually had more luck with large lures like Mag Dawgs and Glitts the last couple of years. Granted our season starts later up here in Minnesota, but I would'nt be afraid to try some of your big stuff. |

| I usually start out with a Ace Tandem spinnerbait and small gliders like Phantoms and Vipers. This year I picked up a Squirrely Phantom and think that will work awesome. I also got some Big Game twitch baits that I want to give a shot along with some shallow Dawgs.

| So many variables... depends on where, and what water temp.
If I had to pick only one, it would be the same one I end the season with - Wild Action Wabull, but the baby one. (regular one in the fall)
My typical day 1 lineup:
X-Rap, clown
1oz CJ's spinnerbait, white
Shumaway Flasher, brown/copper (1 size smaller than the double 8)
Small glider
Small twitchbait
Regular dawg
Totally depends on where I am...

| June 6th is our musky opener this year. water temp will be probably 58-60. might through something lifelike and average size. Storm Kicking Minnow...Shallow dawg...slow roll a chatterbait......now i'm getting all excited. heh |
