Location: Sun Prairie, WI | ok, here goes.
I have a 17 ft MirroCraft Agressor XL single console) w/115 Mariner (90 etec next year)
I carry three batteries, 1 cranking, 1 12 volt for the trolling motor and a slightly smaller 12 volt for the locator.
The old trolling motor was a 44lb thrust, cable driven (hated standing with one foot elevated all the time) Cannot do that anymore due to health issues. (This unit worked very well as far as moving the boat)
I want, auto pilot, wireless footpetal, co-pilot, universal sonar. have looked into a 12 volt 55pd Power Drive and a Terrova, Can't decide???
Have also thought about moving up to a 24 volt, if I did that would I have to make both batteries identical in size and displacement, or can I use them as is? The current batteries are charged by an onboard charger. |

Location: Sun Prairie, WI | I have a 16ft yar craft with a 55pd with auto pilot. Moves boat good except for some of the really windy days. I you were going to go with the 24 volt system I would personally get 2 new batteries of the same size. I hooked up 2 batteries of the same size and age on my 12volt system just hooked them up in parralell so I still had 12 volts going to the motor just double the capacity. If money was not a problem I would go with the 24volt terova. Just my 2cents. |

Location: Contrarian Island | I'd recommend the 70 lb Powerdrive V2 with autopilot...24 volt..plenty of power to pull the boat around.. quite a bit less $$ than the Terrova...another one to look at.
run 2 batteries the same size as well
check your local Minn Kota service center..they can get a list of all the reconditioned ones from the factory at HUGE savings...

| I agree with musky hnr. I just bought a 70 lb V2 reconditioned and it looks brand new, runs perfect and has tons of power. The 24v 70 lb is the way to go. I paid 499 Canadian for it - that's a little over 400 US bucks. My only criticism is that the constant run switch is very small and hard to turn off compared to the old powerdrive pedal - which I could quickly tap off and on with little effort on my old 12 V motor. |

| I have a 16.5' Javelin, needed a new motor and so I got a 55# powerdrive. Wasn't enough, so I traded up for the 70# and that did the trick. Never a problem even in the toughest winds, never a problem running all day in tough winds, always had plenty of battery left. Spend the extra $$ -- you will not be disappointed no matter what the conditions. |
