Hey guys,

Just recently got a new boat and have yet to name it. Just wondering what some of your guys' boats names are! Is there any hidden messages or past stories that 'earned' the name?

My wife and kids call my Tracker Tundra "The Tuna Barge", they tell me it is so big that it looks like a barge...not sure where the tuna comes from.

"Stuck on Three"

For a while when I was learning Lake Michigan fishing, I would always come back with three salmon. The fishing buddies tagged my boat with the name, then we would crack a beer once we boated the forth on each trip. Kinda dumb.

I don't have a name for the Javelin yet, but my dad named my last two boats. My first boat was a 12' plastic jon. It was the mean green fishing machine. My 2nd boat was an Alumacraft bassboat and while fishing with 3 people, 15 rods, a kwik cradle and more it was named the s.s. too d*** small.

It means figure eight in German, but is also the nautical term for a vessel under way at harbor speed.

"POOH"

I thought I better put it out there myself in case someone I know decided to "punk" me. In my defence, it was the name it had when I bought it and I wasn't about to mess with the good muskie mojo the previous owner sold it with.

There is a story behind it, but it's hard to explain when you have to yell over choruses of the "winnie the pooh" theme song. One particular group of guests with a good sense of humor even gave me a bottle of honey to keep in it.

My first boat was named "the dirty oar" I considered naming my second boat the same thing but when I ran into the guy that had the dirty oar a few months later he said he left the name on it. I ended up not naming it, but who knows if I'll name the 3rd boat?

My first Tuffy was named: Genesis 1:28
I used to make people go home and look it up their Bibles, but parapharased, it is " the Lord God blessed them and said.....rule over the fish of the sea...."

I want to name my second Tuffy: John 21:3 , which is " I am going out to fish, said Peter, and he fished all night and caught nothing."

Kind of fitting.

When I was a kid, my Dad had a name for his motor, but not his boat. We used to go "Up North" to North and South Twin every year. In the later years, there were 9 kids along with Mom and Dad crammed into the station wagon, and the wooden boat that we pulled was stuffed to bursting with all of our belongings. Dad would work on that boat every spring, checking for leaks and putting fiberglass in bad spots. Imagine, Dad and 3 boys heading out across North Twin at day break, powered by a 7.5 horsepower Evinrude. And hand-painted on the side of that work horse was the name..."The Pooper".

I don't think i actually have a name for my Grandpas 19 foot runabout that i fish out of. but if i had to think of a name right now i would probably call her old faithful. Kind of generic but its true. When me and my buddies can't take out their dads boats we always come back to my grandfathers runabout. Its a bitch to musky fish out of..hard to control on a spot... but you gotta do what you gotta do to get out and chase skies. HOOK EM HARD THIS SEASON!!!

When my brother's boys where young,I used to yell in the house " I'm taking the boys fishing." to let their mother know where they going. When I got my new boat my nephews had a decal made and put on the boat. It reads "Da Boys".
That way I can always say I'm taking Da Boys fishing.

The only boat I have ever named was my first one. It was a 12 foot tin boat. My buddy was the one that came up with "Catfish Hunter". It looked like one of the boats featured in Grumpy Old Men. It did not have a bilge pump in it, but certainly needed one. I could fish for about 3 hours before I had to start bailing water with the coffee can.

First boat was a 70's baby-blue fiberglass trihull piece of $#it that I care(d) far too much for. Having recently seen 'The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou', we named her 'The Bellafonte', or Bella for short. I love and hate that boat. Turned out to be an incredibly appropriate name... if you've seen the movie, you'll have some idea what I mean.
'New Boat' hasn't been named yet, and it's kind of driving me crazy. I have a tendency to name my stuff, and the right name for new boat hasn't come to me yet. Hopefully this season something will make sense.

"The Wanderer" is the name of my boat. I had the nickname "Capt Ron" for a while in reference to the movie Capt. Ron with Kurt Russell. The name of the boat in the movie is "The Wanderer". Which obviously became my screen name on here too.

I have a mid-70's Blue Fin. Being a Deadhead, I love the old song "Stella Blue". Put the two together and my boat is "Stella Blue Fin" and my team name for Match Fishing has always been "Stella Blues". Such runs in the family - My big sister and hubby have a 25' Cruiser on the Mississippi north of St. Louis, MO. They named it "Grateful Debt" and had the letters painted similar to the script used on the Dead's "American Beauty" album. Hey now....

My boat is named the S.S. Hugmuffin. Hugmuffin was my petname for my wife, whom I lost to cancer a few years ago. We had been talking about getting a new boat for sometime and I had almost put money down on one a couple of weeks before we found her cancer. Well, as she went downhill we talked and she told me that when she was gone that I should go and get our new boat. I told her I would and that I'd name it after her so she could always go fishing with me. So one each side of the bow is the name S.S. Hugmuffin.

I was up to Duluth quite a few years ago and was at Canal Park when a train ferry ship came into the harbor. It was named the INCAN SUPERIOR. Incan for intercanadaian. I had a small 14 foot alumacraft boat with a 4 horse on it at the time. It immediatley was named the Tincan Inferior.

When my son was a little younger, he came to me and asked, "Daddy, why would somebody call another person fish poop?" Not really sure where this was going I asked him what he meant. He replied, "well, last night I was watching TV, and this guy called some one else a 'bass turd.'" When I finally was able to stop laughing, he and I had a l-o-n-g talk, and my little buddy lost a little more of his innocence. I shared the story with my own dad. He knew that, at the same time, I was up to my eyeballs restoring my 681, which wasn't yet the gem it later turned out to be. Grandpa, thinking he was pretty funny, immediately dubbed my diamond in the rough Ranger, The Bass Turd.

So somebody has finally figured out my little pun and joke and how I came up with my nickname. Although I don't know what TV show your son was watching and when, I've been using the name Fishpoop on the muskie message boards since about 2000. So either this TV show has a writer with the same sense of humor that I do or my nickname has somehow made it to Hollywood. lol I wonder if I can demand royalties for using my name?? lol

The red metal flake nitro is, "the red dragon" after Will Farrell's car in the movie old school. The go-devil boat and motor is "the swamp thing" because it spends most of its time in the marsh. The canoe is called "hard work" because, well...

A guy I work with flipped his boat jumping waves from the barges on the Ohio river. I told his wife and brother to start calling his boat "Bottoms Up". She went and had decals made. Put them on upside down so you can read it if he does it again!

After spending over 150 hours rehabbing my boat this spring I have named her "Rehab". My wife thought that was a stupid name but now gets a kick out telling people that when I am out fishing that I am in "Rehab". She says that people don't quite know how to react to that. I guess it is her way of getting even with me. I have probably heard over a hundred times when people that have never met her exclaim that she "looks so familiar". I once responded to a guy that "she used to be a stripper"! The look on both of their faces was priceless!! Now when anyone says that she "looks so familiar" we both start laughing and she then feels obligated to explain why. The joke that keeps on giving.

When my wife and I were up at Vermillion for the MuskieFirst / Spring Bay outing, we saw a big pontoon and it was called "Group Therapy". We thought that was cute. So my wife and I have been thinking about a name for our boat - not that we would put it on it.

I called her yesterday afternoon and said I had a name for our Ranger bassboat - "More out than in". She laughed and said why - and I said when we are on plane trimmed up there is more of the boat out of the water than in.

She thought it was funny, but we're not naming the boat that.

" Lil Jessie " The name of my boat. Named after my mixed breed dog, I always took along with me. she was so good and calm on the boat, she never complained and was always good. She is a social butterfly, however guarded the boat at the launch while I went to get the truck. She has since become too old and has a hard time getting around, now she stays at home while in retirement, she is happy with that, I sure miss taking her along though

My first boat was a 14' mid-V aluminum Sylvan Pike Attacker...so...we just always called it "The Pike Attacker." Fitting and useful and it stuck. We all still talk about that great ship to this day.

I never came up with any creative name(s) for my second boat, years ago when I got it. But here these past 5 or 6 years...with our second (current) boat spending more time in the garage than out on the water....I've now come up with two, very appropriate names for it:

1) Storage Bin
or
2) S.S. Dry Dock

Storage Bin because it not only stores all my fishing gear in it while in "storage" in the garage, but it also seems to store just about anything and everything else that my kids, my wife and myself tend to throw into it. It sits up high enough in the garage, on it's trailer that when crap is thrown into it...it's that "out of sight...out of mind" thing going on. Appropriately named: The Storage Bin

But...then...the name "S.S. Dry Dock" is very fitting as well. So...now I don't know what to do in regards to a name having two great names for it?

My boat is named Bobba Down.
When I was a Forest Preserve Police Officer, I would work a lake where a bunch of black guys would fish for catfish. They would have their big torpedo bobbers out, with chicken livers on, for bait. They all would be sitting around, and then all of a sudden you would hear, bobba down, bobba down! They would all run down to their rods to see if it was their bobber. I would get a big kick out of watching them run around.
Every time I get a fish on, I yell bobba down!!
When I shed hunted, who ever found an antler, would yell, bobba down!

It's named after Kurt Russell's truck in Big Trouble In Little China. My boat is red like his truck and this quote seems kinda like muskie fishing to me:
"When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" My first boat didn't have a name. My second boat was named "Boat". My current boat is named "New Boat".

My creativity is immeasurable.

I'm in a similar situation - I've got a new boat without a name. The one I recently sold received her name - "Blind Squirrel" - when my jealous brother described my fishing skills after I showed him the 31" walleye I had just boated. While not terribly original, I'm considering "Blind Squirrel Too" for the new Tuffy, but I'll probably wait for the appropriate motivation.

My wife named my next boat "Dire Wolf"

Yes, she loves GoT. She named my truck "Biscuit" Not so crazy about that.
