i've been a big MotorGuide trolling motor fan because they've always worked great for me and been bombproof - no problems ever.

on the other hand i absolutely love my Humminbird sonars.
unfortunately the optional built-in MotorGuide transducer is a Lowrance single frequency one that's incompatible with the dual freq Humminbird units, requiring running external wires down the outside.

so today i broke down and ordered a MinnKota Terrova.
it's got the built-in dual beam transducer for use with the Humminbird and electric steer...no wireless pedal but the 18' cord will reach the back deck in my boat. i'm hoping the pedal holds up, that's been my biggest reservation with the MinnKotas.

it's even got AutoPilot...something i've never really seen the need to use before; i suppose i'll fall in love with it once i start using it?

You shouldn't have to worry about the foot pedal Mike.

I went from going through 5-10 a season with the power drives, to NOT going through ANY since I have had the Terrova...but I still keep two spare ones just in case!!!! LOL

I love my Terrova and would assume that you will as well.

I love mine as well. I don't use the pedal, but the pedal is sound, and the motor is a champ. Get yourself familiar with the stow and deploy and make sure you know how to identify when it's properly stowed....ask Jonesi about an improperly stowed Terrova....

I got one and I like it, just a reminder slid the locking collar down when in rough water, 4' waves on Lake Pepin at a decent rate of speed, dont ask, they will replace the shaft once under warranty.

Since Minnkota owns motorguide it isn't too big of a sin.

Since when? As far as I know Motorguide is owned by Brunswick and Minn Kota is owned by Johnson Outdoors.

Good choice man. Pedals are now magnetic switches, so no more wearing out micro 'push/slide' type relays, which would get dusty and wear through in the past. The fact that the stow/deploy has been made a cinch, and the auto pilot digital, makes it all the more friendly to use. Copilot comes in quite handy on many days too.

The autopilot is really nice once a fish is in the net...you can set it to take you away from structure to work on unhooking and releasing the fish and not worry about ruining the rest of the spot.

sin?.....naw......

How many guys here us CoPilot? It's the whole reason I bought a Terrova, and don't know how I got by without it. Don't have AutoPilot.

I've always wondered about the copilot... would be nice to not have to step on the pedal to make changes, but I don't want to have to adjust in the middle of a retrieve to adjust the motor either... So..I'm on the fence about it yet...

Johnson Outdoors owns both MinnKota and Humminbird, thus the good compatibility between them.

as for the copilot, it doesn't do anything for me when it's just a key fob control.
MinnKota now makes a wireless pedal for the PowerDrive that runs through the CoPilot accessory. i can't see why they don't make one for the Terrova...if they did, i would buy it. it would have made the choice to go with a MinnKota even easier.

Bought it for my V2...never use it. I run on constant a lot and if you're already on constant and walk to the back of the boat you can't use the copilot.

I guess I am wrong. I was under the impression that Johnson bought motor guide about five years ago. Appears that It is part of Mercury Marine now.

There is a bit more to the system. I have 2 remotes, and 4 different remote holders strapped to 4 rods right under my reel for easy access. I can make adjustments while reeling, or even fighting a fish. Took a bit to get used to, but now second nature. I don't use it a whole lot, but is very nice in certain situations.
