| Looking for a guide at Lake Vermilion this summer. Anyone got any suggestions. Gregg Thomas is full that week and Chad Cain won't answer his phone. |

| I would recomend taking Jason Hamernick. A awsome guy and very fun guy to fish with. He will put you on the fish and try his best. |

Was it the first post or the fact that all those guys guide on Vermilion that had you confused?

I would recomend taking Jason Hamernick. A awsome guy and very fun guy to fish with. He will put you on the fish and try his best. HE will put you on fish! as far as very fun i dont agree the guy thinks he is gods gift to muskie fishing just my opinion. |

| IMO and from fishing around guide infested lakes, i think alot people give guides way too much credit.....i dont see much of a difference between the plethora of guides and other guys casting away....instead of paying all that money get a good GPS chip and go cast, do some internet surfing, in general, you will probably will be doing the exact same things anyways??? Cast a bulldawg/plastic or cowgirl on the break line? |

If you ask most guides, a lot of them will tell you that a good portion of their clients hire them when they are on vacation or dont even have a boat. A lot of people look at muskie fishing the same as they would look at a trip to six flags. |

Guides are out there every single day. They know where the fish are, what they'be been moving on, what's NOT working, what times of the day have been the best, and most importantly where there have been BIG fish moving.
They might be "doing the same things" but they're probably doing them in exactly the right places, at the right time, with the right color combinations, in places known to hold big fish.
Not that you can't do that yourself given enough time, but if you have 4 days to fish and it takes you 3-1/2 days to get something going, your chances of being successful go way down.

| I would have to go with Jason Hamernick for this one. I dont think there is a single MN fisherman that can compare to the number of monster fish he catches. He has more multiple 50 lb fish and his record on the Minnesota Musky Trail speaks for itself.

Location: MN | We've fished with Matt a couple times. Didn't catch any with him but we learned! And he's a great guy. I might agree with a few above about Jason, he's good at putting fish in the boat - a lot for himself especially. Ever heard of a guy that takes you fishing, and wants to see you catch a fish, and not so concerned about getting any himself? That's the kind of guy I'd go with again. Tom Wehler lives on the lake (literally on an island) during season and knows it as well as anyone. And I think you might learn a few things and enjoy the heck out of it too. |

| My opinion is closely split between Luke Ronnestrand and Matt Snyder
Luke is extrememly knowledgable on that body of water and is very friendly, patient, and easy to get along with. His large number of top finishes in Vermillion tournaments proves he can scratch out fish under tough conditions. Luke would be my top pick
Matt seems like a real likeable guy, the kind of guy you'd want to spend a day in the boat with. I haven't fished with him but he seems to have a proven track record. You couldn't go wrong with him either. |

| Thanks to everyone on here for the advice and information. I finally got ahold of Chad Cain . . . he is at Leech Lake that week. He recommended Matt Snyder. We have him set-up to guide us. Talked to him on the phone a couple of times. He sounds like a real good guy. Again, thanks to everyone for all the help. |
