We all know about the tinsel craze on skirts for bucktails. I was wondering about the advantages and disadvantages for various types of skirt material such as bucktail, other animal hair, rubber and various kinds of tinsel? BG

I think it just gives a different look, anything that makes a muskie sit up and take notice is a good thing.

I think hooking percentages go up with tinsel, Asolutely nothing but hooks to bite. Joe Bucher claims hair is more buoyant than tinsel therfore riding a little higher in the water. Figure 8s rubbers seems to tangle less than about anything else, and I have a friend who catches way more fish per hour than I (bigger too) and claims the fish like Marabou the best.

I really don't know. I have seen them prefer Marabou on two different ocasions, though I rarely through it myself.

I don't think there is a huge difference in this area but a little noticeable is weeds tend to stick to hair easier than rubber or tinsel. I prefer spinnerbaits with rubber for that reason. How each material flows in the water is the largest difference.

I like round silicon skirts like Starflash and especially Hydrosilk ( Dick Pearson Grinder spinnerbaits). Combination with feathers and Mirage flash looks perfect in the water

I like marabou. I tie my own and I feel it "breathes" in the water. There are some drawbacks however, the colors fade after a year and it holds alot of water. It is pretty cheap to buy and you can get it most any color. A different option anyway. Everybody has there own preferences.
