Location: Chicago | I'm gonna be on some big water this year and wondered if some of you have seriously used drift socks while musky fishing. What sizes do you use? I fish out of a 17' boat. Bigger the sock slower my drift? Also is it harder to correct your drifts with the bow mount?

Location: Bloomer, Wi | I havent used mine alot but on vermilion at the outing last year we had a very windy day and the drift sock worked very well for steve and I. It slowed us alot and you could still make adjustments to your position with the trolling motor while drifting down wind.

Location: Stevens Point, WI | I've used a drift sock quite a bit, especially when walleye fishing for many different applications. Whether your wanting to fish a shoreline that's getting pounded by the wind or your wanting to troll and you can't seem to troll down far enough, the use of a drift sock can help tremendously. As for correcting your boat while using a drift sock, depends on how your using it and where your trying to move the boat. If your fishing a shoreline where the wind is pounding into it, the drift sock will be on the inside, the side the shoreline is. That way it's slowing your drift down toward the shoreline; this all being done while your making small corrections with the trolling motor.
Here is a decent guide on drift socks, along with the correct size drift sock(s) for your boat. Take a look at the Lindy socks, they have quite an array of them. I also suggest whatever you do, make sure you have a float attached to the drift sock. Reason being, if you go to untie your sock and it gets away from you, say goodbye to it. The float can save you some money!
