Well after this winter I did it. I am out of room in my tackle boxes. I currently have one muskie monster filled will double ten bucktails. One muskie monster filled with top water, and one muskie monster filled with cranks and jerk baits. So now I need a new one for incoming baits. I am leaning towards the Ultimate tackle by Lakewood for my bucktails. My second choice would be a muskie medium. Please let me know what box you guys like the best.
Thanks much

I have 3 lakewood boxes, the monster, medium, and the small. They all have their place and I personaly carry the medium in the boat with me. The monster is for storage over the winter and long trips, the medium for in the boat and the small for when I go out trolling. My prefrefrence for another would be another medium box. It fits real well in the boat (17 1/2 foot) and still have plenty of room to move around.

I have the Ultimate and wouldnt trade it for anything. It is my first Lakewood so I can't compare it, but I love it. I am a chronic boat hopper so it is nice to be able to get everything I need in one box. Plenty of storage for everything you need and you can use it for a casting deck as well, which mine was used a lot for this year. This box did a lot of traveling and was beat around a lot and held up perfectly. No complaints at all.........well maybe that it is like carrying a Walrus around with you..........

Oh.....I added hangers (drilled holes and used paper clips) so I can hang bucktails in the plastic cases to keep them from bunching up in the bottom.

I don't even know what to say about that. You have 3 monsters already and you're looking for a new one? I am very jealous of your lure collection!

I agree with Twells, The Musky Medium is the way to go, you can fill it up and Actually lift it. I have 4 lakewoods myself and the Monster size boxes are Too big to carry around. And you will find that the Monster even though it is much bigger does not actually store that many more baits. my medium has two side pockets which will hold 2 plano boxes in each side and a extra Large Rear pocket for the bigger wider plano box. The newer lakewoods also come with a white Interior color, Be sure to get that one as it makes it so much easier to see the different lures, bucktails......JMO thanks Mjr

I store my baits in a whole bunch of Plano 3700 or similar boxes and have them sorted by type ie. a clip box full of 10" Suicks, one full of Eagle Tails etc. When I go to fish, I pull what I want for the day and transfer into a single Lakewood Monster and maybe an additional 3700. The Lakewood is good for drying baits but once they are really loaded up, I can't find anything in mine unless I presort. This works really well if you go in someone else's boat or if you just get sick of tripping over all those extra boxes. I would not want more than a couple Lakewoods for my use.

I have one hanging bait box I load up with whatever tails I'm taking with. Other than that, I made the switch to those clear plastic plano boxes. I label them with a sharpie on each corner of the outside of the box so I can see what I'm looking for. For example, on glider boxes have "GL" written on top of each box in the corner...Topwaters boxes have "TW" written on each corner, etc...then when I'm digging through the storage compartment looking for a certain bait, I can more easily find it even if just the corner of the box is sticking out beneath four other boxes. Also I don't have those big, bulky Lakewoods taking up floor space anymore.

Plano 3730 and 3700s are much better than lakewoods, imo...ge a bunch of those instead

I have to agree with "bn" on this one. I have one Monster stuffed and my plan is to make a 8ft tall 4ft wide cabinet, with swing out doors to keep in my garage, to hold all my baits and fill plano box's for my boat, heck I only throw a dozen anyway!!!!

Ya I hear ya. I have many muskie baits and really only throw 3 or 4 a day. I am more of a lure collector!

It's easy to make one. It's a little heavy but not bad. If you have a tablesaw and 1/2" plywood, and maybe some old wood paneling laying around. Just cut some rabets and dados, glue it up. Don't glue the inserts obviously, customize how you want it. Drill little holes all over the bottom to drain and air out for them rainy days. Spray paint then polyurethane it and there you go. they get kind of a cool vintage look to them.

Thats another perk about making one that fits in your garage , you can install a lock on it, to keep the "cowboys" out!!!! I am trying to find the picture that gave me the idea, I plan to have a fold up work surface in order to work on baits and reels, if I need to.

A lakewood Ultimate tacklebox is a Plano 3700 storage box! It holds 6 or 7 plano 3700 series boxes. I have one and its awsome! check them out on the web and you'll see for yourself! I also ordered a boat carry on bag from bass pro (item#38-423-086-00) and it holds 6 plano 3700 series boxes. Its nice to be able to swap the boxes back and forth to match your needs for the day! Just like someone stated before, it's like carrying a "Walrus." It's Very Heavy!
