Hi all,

So, I'm looking to bite the bullet and give in to the beauty of the St. Croix Legend Tournament. I'm considering the sling blade and was wondering what you all think about the split grip.

I realize that it saves weight on the butt, but does that make the rod less balanced? Does it make casting awkward? Really any advice you have on the sling blade with split grip vs standard grip would be greatly appreciated!!!

Best advice you will get is to go hold one of each and buy the one that you like best

actually, if anything that extra ounce or so less weight-wise by eliminating a few inches of cork will tend to cause that rod to be even more out-of-balance compared to that same rod with a full cork handle since these rods are tip heavy to begin with.  i don't own the slingblade version but i do have the "mega swimbait" and the "big dawg" versions and both rods took adding almost 4 ounces of weight to the butt ends to get them perfectly "balanced" being with one finger under the center of the reel those rods sit motionless parallel to the floor and feel almost weightless compared to the tip-heaviness they had before the "balancing" process.  personally i prefer the full extra thick 1 1/2" syncork handles that keith at proedge rods used when he built mine.  hope that helps...

Just fyi I have a St.Croix Legend "Top and Tail" Split Handle and she balances perfect with my 400TE, granted this is a 8FT rod.

Some people weight all their rod butts. If that's you, buy the full cork. Some people troll with 300+ dollar rods. Full cork. The main question is whether or not you palm your reel. The fore cork on the split grip is smaller than the full cork. If you palm your reel the split grip sling blade will become your favorite muskie fishing rod! (if you don't you can't go wrong with the full cork, its just an excellent blank)
