I'm in the process of putting together an order for my first attempt at making buctails. Just curious as to what size clevises I should be purchasing? I mostly plan on using #8 and #10 blades and I was looking at either #6 or #8 sized clevises. Thanks.
I'm a newb bucktail maker too and I just based my clevise on the size of the wire i was using. i.e. .051 wire so I used #4 clevises and it fit fine with both #8 and #10 mag blades.
PS moores seemed to have the best prices for components that I could find, but they are closed in the winter and don't take orders til spring.

The #6's will work great for your 8's. I've found that they don't hold up to the 10's. They bow out at the ends which will lead to the bait rolling. I am using 8's and magnum clevises on all of my 10's this year.

Is that why some of my flashabou and marabou skirts aren't flaring any? Wish I had known that last year when I started building!!!

Sean you can take a needle nose pliers and pinch them down. The .062 wire tends to roll more than the .051. I build mine on both because some guys really want the thicker wire. 10's run better on the .051, imo. I've thrown a lot of 10's on both platforms and I firmly believe that.
The clevises can still cause it to roll with the .051 but it happens a lot more with the .062.
First thing to try is to pinch your clevises back to parallel. If that doesn't work you should reshaft them with either the 8's or the magnums. I haven't run the magnums yet, I picked some up this winter, from Mr. Moore and am looking forward to trying them, they are built like tanks.
Here is a nice link on tuning your clevises. I won't use 6's with my 10's ever again.

Thanks, Troy! I'll take a look when I'm home next. Now I need open water to test it out!!! Really irked me that half my baits's skirts weren't flaring any. I thought it was my tying abilities, but now I'm not so sure it wasn't just a clevis issue.
