Hey folks!
I thought I'd try starting a thread for links for purchasing materials and supplies. I know sites like Stamina, Rollie and Helens, etc. are fairly well known, but I'm sure there are several others (both in and out of the traditional fishing supply world) that could be beneficial to both beginner and more experienced basement lure builders. So if you have a great resource for bucktail wire and don't mind sharing, or a nifty resource for lure eyes, or whatever, I know I'd appreciate it. And I imagine many others would, too.

So here's a start:

Stamina Lures (new site): http://lurepartsonline.com
Rollie and Helens: http://www.muskyshop.com
Barlow's Tackle: http://www.barlowstackle.com
Punisher Lures: http://www.punisherlures.com
Shipwreck Beads: http://www.shipwreckbeads.com/
(That one is really more of a crafty-beady place, but I got some great glass, metal and fiber optic beads from them at a pretty good price...)
Harbor Freight Tools: http://www.harborfreight.com/
(Amazingly reasonable tools... not always top of the line stuff, but great for a bench vice or a belt sander or whatever. I know that's not really a material or supply, but it's been handy for me, so I thought I'd share.)

That's about all I have bookmarked.
Thanks, everybody!

I'm having some problems finding heavy gauge bucktail wire. The best I could find was 8" shafts that are .051 from stamina. I'd prefer longer shafts and heavier wire(.062). Any ideas?

My "neighborhood shop" is Reinke Brothers in Milwaukee. If you are a lure-maker and you are going to The Milwaukee Show, do yourself a favor and stop at Reinke's. A very small shop, but they manage to put 10 gallons of stuff in a 5 gallon bucket. Where else can you sit on the floor and sort through bucktails to find the ones with the longest hair?

Go to any welding supply and tell them you want 1/16" stainless tig wire. The 1/16" is 0.062", grade 308L and comes in 3' pieces, I got 36 pieces in a pound for $14, that's 108 feet for 13 cents a foot.

One thing that I've just started to play with is an aluminum wireform mesh, similiar to this...
http://www.utrechtart.com/dsp_view_product.cfm?item=64405
The nifty thing about this stuff is that you can pull it and stretch it to get some variation in pattern size, if you want. Plus it's flexible and moldable. I'll post some results from it soon, I hope.

Stop by your local fabric store and look at the lace stuff. They'll probably have something like what is used for wedding veils. You'll get some strange looks buying lacy stuff.

If you're in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, Ax-man Surplus has a bunch of eyes... some looked like taxidermy eyes, some are obviously for teddy bears and dolls, etc. I was in the Fridley store yesterday and they had a few... I know the St. Paul branch tends to have more. Might not be exactly the product you're looking for, but if you can make it work it WILL be cheap!

Ax-Man rules. I actually picked up a few eyes from the St. Paul store a few months ago, but there weren't any taxidermy eyes left. I also checked the one in the Brooklyn Park area, but no luck. There is however a TON of random junk that a guy like myself can use out in the garage. You never know what you'll find there. I picked up a bunch of shrink tubing for about a two bucks, and a gear reduction motor for my lure turner for about five bucks. Hard to beat.

Where do you guys get that envirotech clear coat? Also is it a 2 part deal I have never used it. Would you suggest using some kind of 2 part epoxy? Which is easier to use? I do have a machine I just built to rotate the lures as they dry just need to figure what clear coat to get.
Thanks

I just picked up some of this wire and found it is not nearly as heavy as .062 stainless "lure making" wire. It bends easier and seems more prone to the shaft bending under pressure than the regular lure making wire.

Stamina is no longer carrying the pre straightened .062, has anyone else found a source for straight wire shafts 10" or longer?

Hello,

if you are searching for stainless spring wire ask a company who produce springs. Here in Germany are some spring manufacturer who offer spring wire in coils or straighten.

lure parts online.com has .062 wire with a looped end pre straightened in 15 inch lengths also straight .062 by the foot and in bulk rolls . i like the ones with the pre-made loops because they come in 25 packs and their super reasonable and at 15 inches you dont have to loose any length making the loop yourself. They have every single thing you could think of and their the cheapest that ive found on thick wire . They have cheap components as well . clevises are almost free , they have a great selection of flashbeau and rubber as well as bucktail and feathers . Everything you need they have great place to buy hardware The best as far as im concerned they stand behind the products they carry and they ship fast and their prices are as cheap as their is on most things . also try ebay they have tons of lure parts listed at all times sometimes for pennies

Wondering if anyone here can recommend a metal injection molding company (or an alternative that could fit the following description) with the ability to mold complex geometries and willing to accomodate small production runs of say 500 parts annually. I have been calling on several off of thomasnet.com but it is a list of 156 companies so I am hoping someone here may know of a small custom shop with advanced mold making capabilities willing to deal with small companies. Thanks Jeremy
