Location: Brookfield, WI | I have a theory I'm trying to support and would like some input.
Who, on average, are larger and more powerful? WI or MN anglers? Do the big waters of MN support a more robust population of gargantuan musky chasers, or, all things being equal, do the little northern WI gems offer a higher percentage of oversize, strapping, husky anglers?

Location: The desert | I think Sorno and I take the cake, we're the only two 'real' musky fisherman out here, and we are definitely not small in stature! That's 100% of esox chasers being 'oversize, strapping and husky'! Take a look at that tall lanky guy Joel, he skews all of Wisconsin. |

Location: Hayward, WI | We WI dudes are definately tougher. We have to cast for hours and hours to even hope for a follow. Those MN guys can dangle a bait in the water for a few minutes and net a musky doing it. Not much effort required there. Plus we have to deal with a bunch of crappy landings - pushing boats off trailers, rocking your boat to center on the trailer because there's no WAY that same crappy landing will let your boat load straight no matter what, etc.
Average size? I would say that might be pretty close...but in a toughness contest, give it to the boys from WI. Besides, it's not the size of the dog in the fight...
Good topic though, maybe somebody will have some statistics for us later on. |

Tall and lanky is the future of musky fishing in Wisconsin. I've worked very hard at keeping my girlish figure over the years. Long days on the water with only enough food intake to keep up the appropriate energy level as well as a well balanced diet of hops and barley to ensure I am capable of sustaining multiple lengthy days on the water. By and far, this will be the wave of the future. Give me a cowboy hat, and you'll see a new definition of Cowgirl. :P |

You certainly do fall outside the norm. In the eight or nine times you have been kind enough to take me fishing, I have seen you eat the equivelant of three half turkey sandwiches in the boat, and four fried cheese sticks at Aliotas. I doubt you'll ever be classifed as a fall fatty.
I didn't mention it in my first post, but I think it's a given that all IL musky fishermen are wobbly legged, spaghetti armed, nose pickers that never reach a full glorious size as they spend too much of their time traveling back and forth to the locations where real fishing takes place.

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | I can't speak for Baldy, but I personally know that when your fishing in the late fall and you see Saint swim by, it makes your knees shake a bit. |

| you can't count Saint as an "angler", though he is good evidence that there are big fish in Wisconsin. by the way, did he follow all the way around the full figure-8?

Location: Racine, Wi | Jerome, I eat plenty of cheese and drink plenty of beer, so I think there is a different component in the air of SE Wisconsin verses Northern Wisconsin. Perhaps I am part of a lessor strain that has the inability to develop a larger girth due to inferior SE Wisconsin beer and cheese? We may need to study this further. I will consume beer and cheese starting around 5:00 tonight through 2 am on Saturday and report back on any gain in girth. |

Perhaps you are spending to much time in IL. working a stressfull job amoungest "those people"..... (You do work in IL. don't you ?)
Anyway, maybe that is effecting your girth potental.?

Speaking for myself only? Well, if I was a musky I'd probaby go about 48-1/2" with more of a mid-fall girth. Not late fall piggie, but definitely not post spawn skinny or mid summer build either. |

Jerome, I think you found out the discrepancy. You hit the nail on the head. It's like spawning all the time working in IL and commuting from WI. Too much stress year round. LOL |
