| Has anyone used the lowrance 522c for ice fishing? Was looking at getting one but would like to also use it on the ice.
Thanls for any input you might have.

Location: Stevens Point, WI | I have a buddy who bought the Lowrance 522c IceMachine and from what he says, he really loves it. He went ahead and bought the power cables and the transducer for his boat so he could then use it for both applications. So far so good for him. Here is the one he got:

| I use the 332, which is the predecesor of the 522, for ice fishing and love it. I will take it over any out dated flasher out there. The Lowrances have the option of a flasher mode in addition to a graph but I find myself using the split screen graph mode 90% of the time.
Don't believe anybody who tells you that the LCD screens are not as fast as a flasher. If they say that either they have no idea what they are talking about or have not used a modern graph. |

| Thanks for the quick information. If I spend that much money I need to get something that can do double duty.
It looks like it should work out fine but it is hard to pull the trigger with the cost and not hearing much about the ice time.

Location: Stevens Point, WI | Lowrance doesn't spend much on advertising the ice machines, they're main focus is Saltwater and then Freshwater applications, Ice fishing applications are lower on the totem pole yet, behind other products such as Aviation and Automotive applications. |

Location: Davenport, IA | I have a 334 and agree with what has been said. It is just as fast as a flasher. You get a lot more for your money with a Lowrance. I love being able to go back to structure that I found in open water with the GPS feature. |

Location: Nowheresville, MN | I bought the unit and kit this ice season and like it. You can't get more versatility for the price. You might tick off your shack-mates though. The unit puts out a lot of power so older Vexilars are unable to get rid of the interefernce. The wide cone angle can also be a bummer. On steep breaks, the unit displays the shallowest side meaning you might have to have your jig 2' off the bottom before the sonar "sees" it. I use the flasher mode for suspended craps and the sonar mode for eyes and perch. I think you can see fish coming on the bottom better in sonar mode. You can monkey with all different color options too. |

Location: Land of the Musky | JMO but go for the 522iGPS and buy and extra battery and ice transducer. I love my setup. Made a small wooden platform for the 522 and under it I can place two batteries. I can use this for either my Canada trips when using other boats, on the ice or I just pop off my 522 and in my boat it goes. I also bought an extra Johnny swivel for the speed bag setup shown in the picture. Also works in the truck so you can go out on the ice and find your spot with the lakemaps/GPS and then just drill the hole and drop in the transducer.
PS-I also bought a few strips of tape/Velcro and use that on the bottom of the GPS wooden platform and then a strip on the batteries. They stick very well for rough rides and your batteries will not get banged up.
