| Hello all.
I have been getting a bunch of questions from people not wanting to spend the $300+ it takes to get a Legend Series musky rod (I totally understand) which leads me to this post. I still believe that the Legend Series is still the best musky series of rods made today.
Remember the Avid series went away because St Croix redesigned the Premier Series and when completed the actions were very close.
Lets compare a couple of the most popular actions that I have built on.
2M80HF Rated 2-6 ounces and has a blank weight of 6.2 ounces-tip size 9.
4M86HF Rated 2-6 ounces and has a blank weight of 6.2 ounces-tip size 7.5.
*There is 6 more inches of rod blank in the 4 series (Legend) and they weight the same. There will be additional weight adding 6 inches to the 2 series (Premier) but it would only be a small amount.
2M86XHF Rated 4-10 ounces and has a blank weight of 6.8 ounces-tip size 9.5.
4M86XHF Rated 4-10 ounces and has a blank weight of 6.4 ounces-tip size 9.
*specs are about the same.
Now my favorite action for mid to small size baits. This action is often overlooked by musky fisherman. To get the best rod performance when throwing smaller size baits a MH is important. My opinion.
2M80MHF 3/4 -3 ounce and has a blank weight of 5.8 ounces-tip size 7.5
4M80MHF 3/4-3 ounces and has a blank weight of 4.3 ounces-tip size 7.5
There is a 1.5 ounce blank weight difference on this series but the other specs are about the same.
This info was taken of their web site. I will say when comparing actions they are different but close. The new ART design is what makes the Legend series very nice in my opinion.
Hope that helps
Keith

| I love St Croix Premier rods. They are all I use and have models to cover almost all the bases. | |
