We all have our pet peaves on the water.

Mine is fishing a spot, seeing a anothor boat off in the distance watching me. Then I try to return to it, and the other boat that I saw before is always there. I try the next day, and the same boat is there...camping on the spot.

I believe in sharring,,but come on!.[;)] []

I just have to say to myself, I dont own the water....just have to keep on finding new spots.LOL

What are your little pet peaves on the water!!!!

I can recall fishing with Joe Bucher and people would follow him around, they would even park in town somewhere and wait for him to drive by then follow him to the lake and follow (Chase) him on the lake trying to find his good spots

Pigs,People that throw trash/debris in the water and the landings/woods.As far as spot/stealing and being cut-off I have gotten very used to it and move on cause each year it gets a little worse and with all the new-comers and musky promotion my guess is everyone will have to learn to deal with-it as everywhere you go becomes more and more clouded with ALL KINDS of people! That in my opinion is the downfall of being a teacher, sooner or later you loose your spots or get cut-off,period.That`s musky fish`in and one man`s thoughts! #1 Being cut off
and a close second: Those pontoon boats that just have to take a lap around the entire lake right at sunset and right on the weed egde all the way.[:(]

#1. Floating Cigarette Butts!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do we have to ruin such beautiful water. I just dont get the satisfaction of flinging a butt into the lake. 99.99999% of the time the angler either has a pop can or something to throw that butt in. This goes for the road ways as well!

The complete lack of common sense.

That covers most of all the other complaints because the rest come from a lack of common sense. From jetskis accross the bluegill beds to being cut off to spot stealing. It all stems from the lack of common sense and/or the lack of respect for others.

I hate being cut off more than any other thing on the lake. For some reason I always feel the need to get out my Reef Hawg and put one right next to their boat. Then they finally get the idea!

#1 has to be the idiot casting the same weedbed as me from the other end using their 90HP engine because he has no trolling motor and all he does is chop the weeds and scare the fish.

Believe it or not this guy is a guide.

#2 is getting cut off weather trolling or casting.

#3 is jetskis driving 100' away from the boat on a 3/4 miles wide river.

I am too old to have any worries on the water. BUT!!!

I absolutely HATE the sound of multiple jet skis ripping around the lake; especially the guy who wants to impress me from 20' away.[8)]

Definitley the pleasure boats. One almost got a lure last weekend as he boated right in front of me while I was casting. I gave him the stare and he looked confused and said Hi cause he was clueless. Then he almost runs over musky fever. I know where his boat is docked, when fishing that stretch I just might have to bounce a big lure off his boat. Bad aim you know. We nailed a pontoon on the mad chain last year and had a few duck on shabbona too.[:knockout:]

I don't have any problem with pin head boaters! Caught some big fish and fast action with pleasure crafters and jet ski rally waters! The ideal opportunity scattered
Bait fish confused muskies in fact not afraid at all!

I think you can get distracted by these sugar loaded rug rats in tubes and the dreaded ski nautique! Or the guy casting "your spot" Well i have experienced competitive musky feeding, the larger size fish will follow low wile the 32 and 36 will be more aggressive.

Next time on the water stay in tune with your bait don't pay so much attention to your surroundings hey i have boated may fish with an audience its kind of fun! I have even caught a musky casting behind the prop wash of a passing boat! Crissy

#1. watching a guide bonk a 40"er and then watching everyone keep fishing, but the one who caught the fish says she is now fishing for northerns.

#2. going over to the guy taking a half an hour at the ramp and offering help only to be cussed out.

#3. being cut-off by someone who looks like they should know better.

#4. getting buzzed at high speed by a fishing boat.

#5. getting yelled at by a walleye fisherman for letting a musky go.

#6. being cut-off by someone who has no clue and then positions their boat on top of the area I planned to cast to. Usually followed by lots of noise in their boat.

#7. getting buzzed by a jet-ski. I know none of them have any clue, but they still annoy me.

#8. getting buzzed by pleasure boaters. (if their boat exceeds 30ft. or $50,000 this one jumps higher up on the list)

#9. Misc. boneheaded moves by all kinds of ill-imformed, stupid, ignorant, selfish, arrogant or just plain mean people who lack common sense or respect.

I can't belive I still love musky fishing so much after actually writing down my pet-peeves. I guess none of it really matters unless you let it get to you.

Oh, I just thought of some more peeves I had forgotten about. Ah, that's enough.

One thing that really bothers me is when someone in a boat passes within feet of shore fisherman. My gosh, they've got the whole lake, do they need to drive through that one spot I'm fishing with my kids. Go around us, moron.
Happened last night while a buddy and I were hammering walleye from shore. I have never done that to anyone...
never will. Today I went out and bought a boat.

All the best,
Don[:praise:]

Sponge, I've found that keeping those paint balls in the freezer the night before tends to add a little 'zing'. My peeve is fishing on & off for 2 years for the elusive Esox and still coming up dry. Soon, very very soon...... m[]

Jetski's, Jetski's, and Jetski's. I hate it when I speed troll a shallow area, and a Jetski comes wizzing by me, and right over my line. Waterskier's also annoy me, but I can predict where they are going after they do their first run.

Jason, your pet peeve hits the nail right on the head. Nothing worse than a "hole jumper" to me. 15 to 20 years ago we did not have nearly as much problem in this area. Less boats, less fishermen I guess. But even then other anglers did not always park on your spots. This is especially true in the tourneys I used to fish. Seems that there was a certain amount of courtesy given to "honoring" another anglers water. This is almost a thing of the past now. I try very hard not to see where everyone is fishing so that if I find a spot I can consider it fishable. We have some very, very professional thinking youngsters coming up and some who don't seem to care whos toes they step on. Thanks for the opportunity to vent and by the way, if any of you ask me what's happening on the water and I tell you. It will always be the straight poop.......sometimes I just can't let the cat out of the bag, but I will tell you that also. [:)]

One more...

A guy most folks know from MN did this to me once in Canada. I wont name any names, but I am not the first person this guy did this too.

I started fishing the south corner of this point that extends way out. I work the spot for 15 minutes as I ease my way to towards the point. When I get there, I then see another angler fishing the north side of this 5 acres spot. The other angler drives up to me and starts swearing at me up and down, I sat there very quiet as he was telling me there is a big fish on this spot..and its MINE. "You Get OFF my spot you WI basturd".....Knowing that the MN group up there was on its last day, I kindly said his name (which put him in shock) and told him to have a nice "*******" trip HOME!

His boat partner later appolgized to me at a show for his friends actions which were way out of hand.

No one owns any water, even in CANADA. Sometimes anglers dont see each other until its too late. But then on a 5 acres spot..who really cares if there is one boat on the south side and one on north. But thanks to this crazy nut from MN telling me he saw HIS big fish there, I then pounded the heck out if it.[]

Just like giving the right away, you have to respect other anglers on the water. If you are working a shoreline and meet bow to bow with another angler, be the one to move out. The muskie god will reward you for that kind gesture.[;)]

Oh...one more!

When asked, telling folks you never saw a fish to protect your patterns is not a cool thing to do. Not sportsmen like.

In return, to ask someone how they are doing, and NOT to give a response back is not really cool either. If you ask, you should be willing to give a report back to the other anglers.... again,,, the sportsmen like thing to do.

Sorry guys i have to re respond to this post. from a Lady's point of view I have fished tournaments for the last 4 years including the PMTT I am serious about the sport and the future of it.
When i hit the water the obsession that i have consumes me big fish and #'s. I realize that my next cast May produce the state record or even larger a world record i don't fish for recognition i love this sport.
My point is i don't have any wasted time chucking baits at pinheads or blasting them verbally they are not my concern. And if you cut in on a spot i am working WELCOME i will come right behind you and pick up the fish you raised or missed THANK YOU. This species has adapted in 80 million years to its surroundings so must I.
You may not like the other angler or he or she may not like you but something happens when you get a 50 inch class fish to the boat , the ego deflates the guy in the other boat for the most part will help landing the fish and help take photos and a hand shake just to see that Monster swim away. You don't see that in Bass fishing !

Since I fish down south, a problem that I run into is unfriendly bass fishermen, especially during a tournament situations. I was fishing an Ohio lake last year and was coming down an nice weedline that ran into 4 nice laydowns. A bass fisherman was on the first one. I was throwing a Grim Reaper buzz. As we worked our way threw, the guy never moved from his tree, so we proceeded to give him some space and go around him. I asked him how was fishing, and he said do I mind? He doesnt go around my spots and disturb my fish. He got really obnoxious, so i just kept on throwing while ignoring him.

Several years ago at Cave, Gregg Thomas caught a nice 48" in a cove without a partner in his boat to take a pic. He put the fish in a livewell and went down a few yards to a bass fisherman. He told him he didnt have time to take pictures since he was in a tournament situation. I think Gregg ended up reimbursing him his tourney fee so he could get a few pics.

Some other pet peeves, hmmmm........ski doos suck!!!

Although i learned to live with Ski Doos, i find more problems with big pleasure boats. I was fishing over Memorial Day weekend this year, and I can count how many times a Sea Ray or Bayliners would just cruise 10 feet in front of me while fishing a bouyed weed hump!!! I have the same problem fishing Anchor Bay, St. Clair with 40' Scarbs.

Oh well, just a few of my many complaints.[]

I have a lot of hate in me...the Dark Side consumes me....like this is news....so this may take a few minutes:

1. Pleasure Boaters who:
a. unload the boat ON the launch
b. run up to me at 40mph to drive by and see what i'm doing
c. have to yell and scream to me as they drive by
d. have their idiot children yell and scream as they pull them on a tube
e. run in that 20 yard space (once again at 40mph) between me and the shore
f. run full bore in 3 feet of water, and tear up the weeds.

*unlike most you, I do say something, screamed obscenities at a boat that had to check out what we were doing last week

Fisherman Who
a. see points a-f of the above
b. camp on a spot, and dont understand why i might fish around them
c. leave their garbage in the water or on the shore
d. will not slow down when driving by

Muskie Fisherman who:
a. think age = worthiness of respect (was great when I approached an older at a launch last year, and asked him how he did that day...he sneered at me, and said he was muskie fishing, therefore nothing...."oh, I got a 32" I said)
b. chuck baits within 10ft of your boat (i only do this when I get cut off, and then i hit within 5ft, and yell "sorry")
c. cut me off
d. take 10 pictures of a fish out of the water
e. listen to my suggestions on the water, go do exactly what I suggest, and of course, without a thank you

Feeling a little better now,

Slamr

After reading all these threads there is only one shure solution for 95% of these problems. A potato gun. Don't get the wrong intention, you see when there is a potato sailing past there line of site they will keep there distance and will respect your space more. By all means don't hit anyone unless there is good cause to. LOL !! LOL !!

I bet lobbing some eggs might work well, too. Can you imagine the stink and slime after a couple days if they didn't get it washed out all nice?

The problem with all the great venting ideas is that actual confrontations can get pretty ugly. So as much as I would like to actually keep a dozen eggs in my boat and lob them at the dumb, I'd have to accept that I might either have to a) be willing to commit a crime to back it up, or b) back down and apologize. The law doesn't care who throws the first punch, they just care that punches were thrown. And unless you are CORNERED in your own home with no available escape routes, self defense isn't gonna get you out of assault charges. There's always the chance that a person could get in a scrap without police involvement, but there's always somebody nearby with a cell phone, and there's always a loser who might not like being the loser.

What a sucky world. If only it was mandatory for EVERYONE to carry a stick and immediately smack anyone who was rude or stupid, the world would be a better place. []

I had a guy this weekend take his boat and HIT ME!! because he says everyone fishes in front of his cottage and eats all the fish from there. My replie was, "if you saw what we were catching you wouldn't want to eat it!" I'd say that would be a pet peeve having someone try and drive you off the lake
