Time to start talking about ideas to invigorate our league for 2009. I think I will have a new partner this year, ready Weaver???? Hopefully fuel prices stay relatively low, nice to get out and fish some varied waters in the area. Maybe even have a nite in (gasp) Tomahawk!! Any thoughts or new ideas?? Time to draw back in guys that have fallen out of league the last few years. Tuesday nite league guys accounted for at least half of the top 10 places in the Hodag Challunge this year, great anglers and good people fish this league, and it is a whole lot fun yet it has a competitive edge, and a whole lot of knowledge, shared for the most part which is super cool. So...................

hey doctor ... if you take that new guy who's moving to the area can i have troy in my boat? i'm in again for this year and hope we can rebuild back to what we were prior to the crazy fuel prices of last year. my only wish would be for it to be on monday instead of tuesday because i'll still be traveling making it a little tough sometimes, but understand the tradition of tuesday nights.

there should be a prize for largest rough fish caught ...

trade moen's for something in tomahawk ... lol

bring back the team of stellaflue and roberts ...

bring back the team of marquardt and bastian ...

bring back the guys from wausau ...

maybe get some tackle sponsors to donate and get credit for more weekly door prizes to entice more teams to join?

team winner gets an exemption for the MAC the following year!!!!!????? .... lol

i'm full of ideas ... when the new guy arrives give me a shout and let's get out on the ice Dave ...

Are there strict bodies of water to abide by? Boom, Sand/Dam Chain, Lake Julia, etc? This sounds great, I only wish I were in the area often enough to be a part of the fun. Wonder how my wife will take the news when I tell her we're going to go live at the cabin for the season??

Current Lake Groups
- Boom
- Pelican
- George/Julia/Thompson
- Crescent/Hancock/Oneida/Manson
- Tomahawk
- Moens Sewer (i don't have an opinion on this one)
- One week where we usually choose a different group

we go through this group then take a week off and go through the same group a second time ...

did i get that right Doc? ...

when we have our meeting we'll usually go through the groups and argue adding or changing ... one year we went to the sugar camp chain and another year we did a few others ...

it's really a great foundation of people and unfortunately we've lost some good teams/people to either the cost of driving there or just some guys wanting to shift gears and use the time differently. change has been embrased by the collective group and although we had a really down year last year it's something that is worth working on to make better each year.

Dave and Troy have done an outstanding job leading us through a very tough time ...

Overall, Sue and I enjoy fishing the Rhinelander league, and will be this year again. I like moving around some, no worries there. Since we fish Lake Tomahawk, Woodruff, and Sugar Camp now and again, maybe we should call this the Rhinelander/Oneida County Muskie League, and get more folks in from up North.

If you are in the area, have the evening free and are not fishing, you are missing a really good time.

I will make myself available as a sub, if that is allowed. Can't commit to every week, but I would enjoy a couple nights fishing. Keep me in mind if subs are OK.

the guys at the musky shop started a fun night on wednesday nights primarily focusing on getting out regularly, fishing and socializing. it would make sense to recruit these guys and i'll get started in that regard. in their format it doesn't matter for a team/fisherman to be consistent, but rather you show up if you can and put 5 bucks or whatever in the jar that we all fish for on that evening.

i've often thought about there being a way for there to be open/sub fishing for guys that might just want to wander in and check it out, be there if they are on vacation during the time, or fish when they can (in my case) and not tie up a team having a job that forces them to travel on occasion.

lots to think about for sure but at the end of the day it's a good thing that i hope keeps on going and rebuilding ...

I wasn't able to fish this last year; but this year my buddy might be living up there (Minocqua or Eagle River area) with me. I'll talk to him over the weekend and see if he would be interested. I know we're planning on spending some time down on Pelican so hopefully he's interested.

I saw a Beaver on Pelican once. it was off Antigo Island, too, swimming around in Norm's target zone. Very careless on that animal's part, IMO.

We had a twelve week season last year, a total of 32 fish were caught. Crescent Lake produced 8, all from one nite with Gene Robinson boating 4 in two hours an awesome feat, although the lake family was fished twice. Lake Tomahawk was fished twice and produced nothing, although the second time around on that lake family we fished two other waters Muskellunge and Gilmore and fished were boated on each. Julia produced,Thompson did not and George gave out two. Pelican produced on two occasions as did Enterprise. Moens was productive, don't ask me why but it has been a few years since my boat has not caught a fish out there on a league nite, can you say "dialed in"?? Oneida gave out a few as it was en fuego early season last year, Hancock did not. On any given nite there were 20 -28 anglers , down from previous years of 46-48. The average size of fish was 40 inches which is very consistant with the previous 3 years. Big fish was a fat 46 with a few other fish in the 44-46 inch range. Waiting for Team Badfish to join to help bolster our numbers:) Hope this was info helps. Dave

Yellow slide. That's my only fishing tip.

Kevin

Who are the guys behind this musky league? It's a fair question.
