| Hello all,
I am trying to decided what I want to do with a replica i need to get...I would love to see what other people got as far as how it looks in a house...Show us what you got, who did it and the size of it. I would love to see them on drift wood and not on drift wood.
Thanks for the help guys!!!!!!!

Location: Right Here | Check these guys out too. They were at the Chicago show for the first time this year. www.advancedtaxidermy.com/gallery/fish-gallery.html They are more than the $12.50 per inch that Fittante and Lax charge, but their art work is phenomenal. (Something like $19.50 per inch Canadian, which is currently around $16.50 US.) I went to the show thinking I was going to order a mount from Lax or Fittante, but walked out of the show with my cash still in my pocket. I’m trying to figure out whether or not I want to dump the extra dough on these guys. I really don’t want to sound like an advertisement, but my jaw dropped when I looked at their fish. They do mounts for most of the new Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops, including a 55’ humpback for BP in Boston. Fittante and Lax do awesome work, but these guys are something to be considered too. The only unfortunate thing is that they only charge Canadian, so the US price changes daily.

Location: Ogden, Ut | I didn't get to pick who did mine...it was done secretly and presented to me when I least expected it. But Rick Lax did an amazing job of representing what may very well be the biggest tiger I will ever encounter. He truly captured the moment again. If I ever have another fish reproduction done, he'll be the one I call.
Here's a couple of pics; one on the wall to get a good view of the artistry and one w/ me and my Mom to give you a sense of scale. (I still look dazed in that photo!)
Thanks again guys.

Location: mankato, mn | This thread is making me freak the frick out!!! I'm waiting on my replica from Fittante which is supposed to be done in the next week or so. You guys are just making the wait worse...thanks a lot pricks! haha. But seriously, some of these mounts look amazing! I'm way impressed by Advanced Taxidermy's mounts. Crazy good detail, but I still prefer Joe's painting to any other. Congrats to Chadster and Rob S. for having some of the finest looking paint jobs i've seen! |

Congrats to Chadster and Rob S. for having some of the finest looking paint jobs i've seen!
Thanks
I am pretty darn anal, so when I worked with Joe, I wanted to ensure this representaed the fish as closely as possible. If you put a tape on the fish it measures 53.5 x 22, which is exactly what this fish measured in the cradle. It was a summer fish that did not have a fat belly, but it was square like a railroad tie (broad back) and solid (muscular). Joe got it dead on.
Joe is a true artist. When I look at the replica, it doesn't look like a replica, it looks like the fish... He is doing a 54.5 x 23 for me for me currently. When that one hangs next to the 53, I know it will look just a s good and proportionate to the 53. I cant stand looking at grossly inflated replicas. I feel the mounts i have represent the fish as precisely as possibly without killing the fish. It's worth the wait! When I get a 45 or 50 pounder, Joe will do it.

Location: Madison, WI | I just picked up my 52 x 27 repo from the Chicago Musky Show. Rick Lax did an awesome job! The attention to detail is simply amazing! It is a two sided mount with a wood base that is filled with rocks. I am very impressed.
I would highly recommend Lax for your next reproduction.

| GETTHENET,
Very, very nice. Thanks for sharing those detailed and various pix. Often times in pix of mounts/replicas, it's very hard to get an idea for size due to not having anything within the photo for comparison, which, you've done for us nicely by putting your daughter in there, and then in addition to that, it's often tough to tell size of a mount/replica due to the different shapes, twists or positions the fish's body has been molded into, but you're various shots show it off perfectly. Very, very nice. |

| Here is a mount that Rick just finished before the Chicago Show and will be at other shows this year. He also figured out how to make a splash of water which many of you who were at the Chicago Show saw what he did with McNair's fish.
This mount is baby ducks swimming on water with a musky looking up at them for a quick meal. This one is my favorite!!!!!!!

| GETTHENET,
If you don't mind saying, or mind me asking, how much more $$$$ did it cost to have your repro done in that 2-sided fashion vs. just a single sided, hanging wall mount on driftwood?
Smokin Joe posts a cool example as well...more of a "theme or concept" reproduction. That's cool too. Even more costly...but...very cool... |

According to the LAX website its $19 per inch double sided mounts...only a grand for a fish of a lifetime |
|
|
|

Location: Madison, WI | Mack, I believe Lax charges around $12.50 per inch for a one sided mount and $19 per inch for a two sided. Well worth the extra since you will have it forever. |

Location: north central wisconsin | pic's don't show the true color well(lost the blue/purples when flash went off), due to low light. Joe Fittante's work. It's actually a replica of a 2 fish, or one caught twice. My friend caught it on a tip-up in early spring of 2001. I got her on my first ice trip of winter 02/03 with dad, a half mile from where my buddy got it. Joe had trouble skinning a smelt like it ate so he painted a sucker to look like one, and did very well. I bumped the tail of the sucker and broke a piece, hence the home repair on it. Attached is a pic of the second capture, to show how Joe painted certain markings that I noticed upon both captures(the little whale shaped marking above and just in front of fin is one example).

Location: SE Wisconsin | I would say it looks like a walleye. Remember walleyes with small heads and big bodies means they grow fast, so they were eating good. I think it's awesome he can capture that charicteristic that's so especially unique to walleye.

| Mike it's kinda weird I just messaged you asking for a pic of the 57" repro when you had the time...then I went looking at a post about Musky/Pike Attacks and ended up googling every way of "musky cat picture". Low and behold on page 11 of the results the words " 57" Musky " show up above a picture on some Crappie Killer website thats from some place that doesn't look like Wisconsin. Instantly recognized it just looking at the repro. Beauty..hope this helps you out too
Chadster, I'm well aware of what Walleyes look like up to 16.5lbs in the flesh...skin..scales, whatever lol...but the head shape kinda reminded me of a salmon or something, mount still looks great dude.

Boy, maybe its lighting in the photo. I used to do lots of trout fishing, and i don't see any remblance of trout in the mount. I thought you were referencing another one of the walleyes shown, but that one was not 31". I kept looking for another 31, cause mine looks like a walleye to me. This is my largest walleye to date, so I am a little defensive... Don't bash my walleye;)... lol... you know how it goes... If you can't tell, I am also very biased to Joe's work... I just think the realism is in a league of its own.

I'll guess Advanced Taxidermy or Artistic Anglers. |

Placing the order without being found out - should be possible. Proudly hanging it in the den without her seeing it - GOOD LUCK! |

Location: Mahtomedi, MN | Does anybody else notice that one of the big two's repo's have really black eyes. I won't mention who to see if anybody picks up on it, but they look very unnatural. I am wondering if you actually have options with the eye balls.
I will be getting a reproduction this winter but haven't made my decision 100%. |

Based on my many years experience as a Fish Taxidermist, I would guess Advanced Taxidermy did it. And if anyone wants to really see a really good detailed Fish Replica, you should visit your state Taxidermy Association's annual competition or better yet, if you are anywhere close to St. Charles, MO this next May (2011), check out the World Taxidermy & Fish Carving Championships. Most would see quality you never knew existed...
This is my 1st post here, if I can figure out how to attach photo will show one of my Musky Replica's.

Location: Middletown, Ohio | Here are a couple shots of my muskie reproduction. It's a 42" that was my first muskie that I caught at Cave Run, KY. The repo is from Jim Alred Taxidermy and I painted it myself.

| I think my first replica will have to go to Hans the Carver. He just finished up another fish and his wood replicas look better than any fiberglass on here. $65 an inch though. |
|
|
|
| the top view of that wooden fish is amazing ,but fiberglass musky are molded with real fish ,not easy to beat |

| Some of you may remember Frederick Aman who started as a taxidermist in the Conover, WI area and then transitioned to doing bronze sculpture and had a studio in Milwaukee. His musky and other wildlife sculpture were remarkable as well. |

| I have a Fittante 53" which is very nice, but I just got my 46" Tiger muskie hand carved out of wood and hand painted by the super talented Hans the Carver. This thing is unreal. The detail is mind bottling. And instead of just being a plastic mold that is painted, this is a handcrafted one-of-a-kind piece of art. It was considerably more expensive than a plastic replica, but I honestly couldn't be happier. I feel like it I own a Rembrandt or Picasso. Check out some of these PHOTOS:
