is it a ficht? if so ensure it has had the computer and injector updates. Be sure to do a compression check also

Those mostors are extremely reliable. All bugs were worked out and I know there are many satisfied owners. Value is lower because of prior problems.

Yeah, wasn't it like the '01's and before that had issues?

I have an 03 200hp FICHT and have had a few electrial issues. EMM/ECU failure is fairly common with FICHT's - keep this website handy www.dfitechnologies.com. Also they love to eat sparkplugs!!!! Make sure you replace plugs every year if you run much - Plugs are about $10 a pop and need to be "indexed" - I had a dealer show me how to do this the first time. (Sometimes it takes 7-8 plugs to get them all facing the injectors properly). On the bright side they are fast!

I had a FICHT '00 175 and replaced plugs maybe once. The indexing is not hard and if done right you wont go through anymore plugs than you need. Dont be afraid of it. They turned out to be great engines with less problems than the HPDI Yamaha and some OPtis.

And what problems have the HPDI's had?

Are you talking about the injectors?

Muskyboys, If it is a 03, is it a HO, it should not be a FICHT on the cover. I have been running mine for 4+ years no problems with the motor, except what I did.

Plug change every year or 2 years, just depends on the hours run, engine put alot of horsey's out, and burn down anode on the plugs. Mark gap opening and index gap opening toward injector, need torques wrench and few extra plugs, very easy process.

I have been told that this was probably there strongest motor as far peformance, 04,05 some minor bug with the E-tecs,

Well documented 250 HPDI prob. as in lost powerhead. Just do search. Anyway I think the FICHT should not be a problem Good luck with it.
