Location: Oregon, IL | I have a vacation planned at Vermilion in late July and was trying to get some names of a few guides. I've heard of Musky Tom and I am pretty sure Chad Cain quides on Vermilion in the summer months. Has anyone fished with a quide on vermilion? If so how did it go.

| I got to jump in the boat with Ace this summer. He donated a guide trip to the Muskie First outing. Great guy to be in the boat with. He knows the lake well (think he said 32 years guiding there?). Don't think you can go wrong with him!!

| I want to get hooked up with a multi species guide. I'm taking my daughter up for two weeks and want to catch some of those humungous smallies and walleyes.....pike too. If we can pop some muskies, that's a bonus. She isn't a die-hard muskie fisherperson yet, and enjoys getting he string stretched by all who'll participate.

Location: Minnetonka | I fished w/ John Hoyer on Vermilion in August and got my PB, a 55.5". Rumor has it that he and his clients had a 50+ in the boat every weekend he fished the V this summer. He doesn't have as much time on the lake as Tom or Terry, but is one of the most progressive guides in the sport and has learned volumes about the lake, as well as some amazing figure 8 mechanics that he'd probably share. |

| I second the vote for John Hoyer as well. I've fished for these toothy critters for over 20 plus years, and learned a ton last year spending some time in the boat with John. My #s of figure 8 fish went through the roof last year by listening and paying attention to what John was showing me. He catches fish and big ones on the "V"
Plus he has more drive and stamina then a Buck King Salmon running up the river to shoot his final seed!!!!
You would not go wrong, but neither with any of the other great names mentioned.

| I am sure all the guides mentioned would be great choices, but I would also like to recomend John Hoyer. I haven't fished with John on V but have many times on Tonka. This guys just makes muskies appear...like all the time. The only problem is keeping up with the guy, he will fish you till you are too tired to hold the rod. |

Location: Minneapolis | I've fished with Dave Swenson three times. He fishes long and hard, he explains why you're fishing the spots you are, he's not a blow hard (a giant plus in my book!). Last September, we fished with Dave from noon until 11:30 p.m.!
He knows the lake extremely well. He and his partner won the PMTT there a couple years ago.
He guides walleyes, too.

I went out with Dustin This summer, and he know the lake well, and put me and my buddy on some big fish, my peron best!!!!. There are four of the guides Dustin Carlson, Pete Brzezenski, Adam Laporte & Bob Benson that guide together so they share info to stay on fish all the time, They put many big fish over 50" in the boat
I know Dustin & Bob won the MMTT there in 07.
If you need a place to stay we stayed at Vermilion Dam Lodge. Ed runs a first class resort.

Location: MN | I'll put votes in for Matt Snyder and Josh Bovorosky.... also I am sure Luke Ronnerstrand also has the lake dialed in. Matt Snyder lives on the Tower side for the summer and spends almost every day on Vermilion musky fishing. I have spent time in the boat with Matt and he's knows where and what the fish are doing and is great at staying ahead of the crowds. I know a couple years back he had over two dozen 50+ inch muskies in the boat out of Vermilion for one season. I haven't been able to spend boat time with Josh and Luke but both are extremely talented at putting muskies in the boat. I know Josh had a 56" Vermilion musky last summer.

| It seems the Vermilion Guide topic just popped up somewhere else. My two cents is the same:
My opinion is split between Luke Ronnestrand and Matt Snyder
Luke is extrememly knowledgable on that body of water and is very friendly, patient, and easy to get along with. His large number of top finishes in Vermillion tournaments proves he can scratch out fish under tough conditions. Luke would be my top pick.
Matt seems like a real likeable guy, the kind of guy you'd want to spend a day in the boat with. I haven't fished with him but he seems to have a proven track record. You couldn't go wrong with him either. I saw the earlier post from Smokin' Joe and I really wonder about the alias, "The Smiling Mallard". There's gotta be a story behind that one...
