Good Morning Everyone,

I've got an Alumacraft 175 cs with a Yamaha F115 and I can troll down to about 2.75 mph. I would like to add a kicker for peace of mind I fish some pretty remote water and the piece of mind would be great. I also want to be able to fish slower in the fall and at the above speeds I'm not quite where I want to be.

My questions are these. First is a 6 horse going to be big enough for the boat I'm in? My next question is I want to be able to pull the kicker to put on another boat. Can I set it up for steering with the big motor and then unattach it for use on a smaller boat for portages?

Thanks

Dave

I would think a 6 hp would be fine. I have a 6 hp on a 16 ft. dual console deep V, and use it for fall trolling. Can troll down as slow as I need and up to 6 mph. Have not thought I needed more power and have been in some pretty nasty stuff on LOTW in the fall. Yes you can hook up to the main motor with a tie bar and remove it to take the kicker off, I have one, cant rememeber the name of the tie bar though. You could also use the troll master for throttle at the console if you needed it.

Goldeneye is the tie bar accessory. Panther Marine sells them. About $30.00. Most marine stores and Gander stores have them.
