Who has used one? What do you think? Which model are you running? I am leaning towards the 30HA.

The STTLW30HA comes with 6.1:1 gears and 35" line pickup, weights 19.4oz, and has a drag of 15.4lbs. The STTLW40HA comes with 6.4:1 gears and 47.2" line pickup, weights 23.10oz, and has 20.0lbs of drag. If you have BIG hands try the 40 to see if it fits your hands, with 47.2 line pickup that reel will smoke a DCG10/13.

Is anybody going to have the Saltists at the Chicago show? I'd like to see one in person.

How much line does an ABU 7000 HSN pick up?

I am trying to figure out if the 30 is fast enough?

The 7000hsn with 4.1:1 gears has a line pickup of 22.5" The 7000hsn with 5.3:1 gears has a line pick up of 29.1" , thats with a full spool of line.

I bought the 30 with a levelwind early fall last year and really like the reel. It does feel a bit bigger in your hands than say a Luna 300. I have not used it a whole lot, but will tell you that it pulls tens with ease. Versatility is it's strong point though. Having a levelwind allows you to throw baits other than bucktails without worrying how the line packs on the spool. I am excited to use it from season start to end and see how it holds up. I guess time will tell.

i used a Saltist 30TH for double-10s last season. (non-levelwind)
i chose it for the high-speed gear ratio and 47"/crank line pick-up along with a narrow spool. it's a big reel, and that can be a tad cumbersome at times and tiring if you have small hands - but much less tiring than trying to crank big bucktails with a smaller reel!

it worked well for me: cranking the big bucktails with ease, and burning them faster than you'd believe if you weren't seeing it. the lack of a levelwind and flip freespool takes some practice to master, but practice makes perfect, even if you're like me and prefer to open the freespool for figure-8s. it was also very durable, working throughout the full season with no mechanical issues at all.

i'm interested to get my hands on one of these new versions with a levelwind. hopefully someone will have one at the Chicago Show next weekend.
