Location: Wausau, Wisconsin | After two years of work, an idea of mine has become a reality. I am excited to introduce the HOOK'D UP OUTDOORS TYRANT. This sinking jerkbait is a combination of everything I believe is important in a fishing lure.
It offers amazing hookset percentages with its hard plastic body that is 7" in length. The tubular body style allows for maximum hook slide that drives hooks hard.
It is the most back friendly large bait available with it's tapering head that allows anyone to be able to work the lure all day at full strength.
It's soft plastic tail is lively in the water and amongst the most durable soft plastics on the market.
It will have six beautiful finishes with replaceable tails in six colors as well. The tails seat very solidly within the body cavity and will not pull out. This bait is extremely durable and will withstand countless fish attacks with only limited tail replacements. This makes it extremely economical over time.
The lure does have rattles that chime with its gliding action and will most certainly become a favorite amongst many muskie anglers. With that being said, I am of course, bias.
We are not 100% complete with this. I have to wrap up some packaging design and standard "business procedures". Because of this, we are not prepared to be at any of the major musky shows, but have already had commitments with many retailers so the lure will be available by the Wisconsin opener. Thanks to a lot of people for a lot of help on this and so many who have patiently waited for me to finish this. I hope everyone has the success I have experienced with my prototypes over the past two seasons.
**Note colors are subject and likely to change. These are just prototypes.

If you don't mind, what does the hard body do on a straight retrieve and how does it sink?

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin | I do not have video of the bait yet but there will be a commercial with underwater footage avialable around the end of the month. It is a diving sink lure with a slight side to side action. It is a jerkbait, I wouldn't classify it as a glide bait. It sinks evenly with the head angled down. It isn't perfect YET and I don't plan on getting it on the shelves until it is. I never intended on having a lure company, but I wanted the bait for myself and ended up working out this way. I'm very excited about it and it has been a lot of fun so far. I will say one thing about the bait, it is built like a brick poohouse. |

Location: Hugo, MN | They look great, and the interchangeable tails are a great feature. Nothing worse than having to glue on or torch on new tails at the end of the day. That and having the ability to change the tail color when fish are being picky. |

| Hey justin any idea how much these wil cost when they come out to the retailers?
Also how longis the bait with the tail stretched out? |
|
|
|
| The body length of the lure is 7" and the tail is also about 7" depending on how you measure... the bait weighs 8 ounces and will retail for $19.99. Our 3 pack replacement tails will retail for $9.99. There will be six colors of the bait: Perch, Firetiger, Walleye, Sucker, Blue Shad, Midnight There will be 12 tail colors: orange, chartruese, red head, midnight, walleye, saphire blue, chrome, flame, gold, lime, pearl and...and...I can't remember.
There will continually be more information available at the site: www.victoryoutdoors.net and I will keep updates on this site. I will have pool video in a couple weeks when I get the final product. I had to make one minor weight shift with these. Consider them done. |

| The Tyrant looks awesome. I'd really like to see a video of you (Justin) showing the different presentations of the lure. I'm sure this lure will be a huge success this year, can't wait to get a couple myself. Good luck with your new business venture. Judging by all your committed retailers, you'll do just fine. |

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin | I'm heading over to Green Bay this weekend to use the pool at Dale Stroshein's resort. I'll shoot some video there and do my best to do a small presentation. I'll try to have it up early next week but cant promise expert camera or editing work. J. Sloan works that magic, I just chuck lures. Here's all the colors.

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin | Mota,
I agree with you. Sucker and River Walleye patterns do have a white belly. The blue cisco will be changed slightly to pink rather than orange as well. We wanted to limit our colors to six this year to best manage our inventory and create continuity in sales with our retailers. There have already been talks of custom colors with some retailers and chartruese and white both play parts in that. Thank you for your input, I do appreciate it and take it seriously. |

| Congratulations on bringing what looks like an excellent jerkbait to the market. Sounds like you put a lot of careful planning into your project too. I particularly like the way the tail attaches. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best ideas. |

| The Tyrant and Tyrant replaceable tails should be on all major retailers shelves by end of April. We will have 6 colors on the hard body lure and 8 colors of tails. The tails will have a solid colored body then tipped with a different color example Black/Orange. The tails can also be used to repair other soft plastic lures. The Tyrant will retail for $19.99 and the 3 pack of replaceable tails for $10.99. |

| That was one of the best poolside videos that I have ever seen.
The lure looks fabulous and versatile. You mentioned earlier in the thread that this isn't a "glide bait", but you sure can fish it like one. The other thing that I really liked is the one thing that I have been trying to stress to guys that I fish with or guys on the web, the most important aspect of fishing gliders and jerkbaits is implementing a pause in your retrieve. I'm glad that you mentioned it on several occasions.
Not that I need more lures, but I will be adding a few of those to my box this year.

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin | Thanks to everyone for such nice comments, espcecially Beaver, that made my day. When I classify a lure as a glide bait, I naturally think of baits like Mantas. To me, this seems more like a "slash bait" as defined by the Rapala X-Rap. While I have heard comparisons to lures like Dawgs and Super Ds, this lure is intended for a different type of fishing and fish activity. That's the great thing about fishing, each person finds what works best for them where. It's not like I'm rushing to sell my soft plastics and I hope I didn't portray that in my video. The Tyrant in my mind, is its own category. |

Location: Hugo, MN | I just saw the video, and I must say, the bait looks fantastic in the water. I can't wait to get my hands on one. I like how aggressively the bait can be worked, which is the way I like working gliders. In addition, I love the big tail. I think the best part about this bait is the way it continues forward momentum and tail action after the pause. That's going to trigger a lot of fish. Please tell me they'll be available at the MN Muskie Expo. |
|
|
|
| Sorry they will not be at the MN Show but will be available in April at Bass Pro, Gander Mtn, Rollies, Smokeys, Throne Bros & many more stores. |

|
| it seems well made but I noticed in the video that the action of bait reall made by sweeping rod side to side. I don't like this because during that slight time frame of switching the rod side to side you could miss a strike. Prefer baits that allow you to keep your rod tip pointed at the bait. I feel you will better a better and faster hookset.
Just my observation. |

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin | Guest,
You are correct. Notice though, I'm only using that action when trying to walk the bait side to side, which is not what I intended the lure to do. I was just trying to showcase it's diversity. It is designed to be fished as you prefer, with a one direction, downwards motion. I couldn't agree with you more. |

| We've had a number of calls in the last few days at Rollie & Helen's about the Tyrant. Yes, we will take pre-orders for these. Will ship and bill you when they come in. Just give us a call and let us know which colors you want. They are not on the online ordering system yet. Phone calls only right now. Thanks. |

| Why is this thread listed under "Basement Baits"? Shouldn't it be under tackle and equipment? This is sure to be one of the best new baits of 2009! The bait will be available at several major retailers very soon! I have seen the quality and action of this bait first hand and know I will be throwing them a lot in the upcoming season!
Justin, you have truly come up with a winner! |
