| Anybody use a "Power Pole" on there boat for musky fishing? this is an electric type shallow water anchor system...
I've had times on breezy days when changing lures that this may have been handy...
was thinking about it for my new tuffy... |

Location: Kodiak, AK | I wanted one so badly on my Range I bought this year. I just thought it was the coolest thing to have. But dangit, for the price, I figured I'd fish a season and see if there was a need. And for the whole season on the water, never once did I think to myself that I need one! And like A-B-G mentioned, get to know your TM and you can change lures just fine. I've got a Terrova with CoPilot, so I can sit in the back, swap a fly out, get a drink, have a sandwhich and never loose control of the boat.
Power Poles are cool as heck though. I saw one the other day that had two on the back and it allows you to stake your boat perpindicular to current or wind and sit there rock solid. I thought that was a cool idea. And for $3000, that capability is all your's! |

| I've had one on the last two boats I've had and have used it for two distinctly different applications.
One; while standing on my cooler, up on the front deck slowly cruising the shallows for visible fish it allows me to stop very quickly and quietly without kicking dust in the fishes face before I make a cast.
The other; I mounted a "kite release clip" to the bottom of the pole and it allows me to run a lure down to 8 feet below the surface without adding any lead. If I run over weeds that are less than 8' from the surface I can hit the fob and bring the lure to what ever depth I need to make it just tick the weed tops. Very cool.

Location: Kodiak, AK | My how the times change! I was in denial last year when I replied!! That, and I was still new to LSC and was didn't realize the advantages of one here. Thinking about it over the winter, looking at charts and new places to fish the next year (which was this year) and all the 2-6' of water with current this lake has got me thinking. Another thing as I sat and thought all winter long was about my fly casting and all the water I was misssing in a fast drift. With conventional gear you can burn the bait back, pick it up and throw it again before you've drifted 40'. Fly casting, you'll drift twice that by the time you're done with false casting, mending to allow for drift, letting the intermediate line settle as it's supposed to, etc.... I was drifting over alot of uncovered water. The PP came back into my head, because I really did always want one as I'm a saltwater guy at heart.
So I installed one this spring before season and WOW!! It's entirely changed how I fish and what I can do. One of the biggest things for LSC or any lake is fishing efficiently, and the PP has made me more efficient. I can fish channel edges, perch myself on a 5' flat and cast into the first weedline and not miss any water. It's awesome. So awesome, I'm thinking about putting a second one on the boat so I can sit perpindicular to the current or wind and not have to account for bow swing. They're awesome. And it didn't cost me the $3,000 I had it priced out at. I installed mine myself in an afternoon, and I was out the door with an 8' PP, bracket, Wave Pak, Remote Kit and Stealth Pump for less than $2,000.
(Larry- I bought a center console bay boat in the summer of 08 and I get some funny looks at the ramp, and guys telling me I should've gotten a "proper" muskie boat. Even had one guy tell me Ranger doesn't make a bay boat! But I love it! And I saw your show last season where you got the 24' Skeeter and how much you like it and how well they fish. They're awesome aren't they? I'd be hard-pressed to get a sit-down dual console boat after owning this boat.)

Location: Kodiak, AK | Thanks Steve. That means lalot coming from you. You know your boats/motors. Sled told me it'd turn heads when I bought it and it does. I get more compliments, questions, and looks at the ramp, the McDonald's parking lot and gas station than I'd have ever guessed. I love this boat. I mean, I want a Viking burial in it when I die- lay me in it, set it on fire and push me out to sea and watch us burn to the water line. That's how much I love this boat. 620 hull with a bay interior. I'm a muskie guy and a saltwater guy....this boat was designed for me!
Here it is tonight at the ramp after the docks are pulled. And pertainant to this thread, notice the Power Pole down holding me up on the bank in wind and current when there's nothing to tie off to. That thing is the single most benificial thing I've installed on that boat, and that's ahead of a Terrova, HDS8, and a new 225 Yammie. Caught a 44" tonight as well while PP'd down in 20 mph wind.
Did I mention I love this boat?

Location: Bemidji, MN | So what is taking you midwest guys so long to discover center consoles anyway? I grew up out east, and as soon as I moved here I wondered why everyone sits on the side of the boat and gets soaked. Plus you can run a circles around it fighting fish without jumping over things. Right now I run a little boat with a tiller, but when I can afford a "real" boat, I want a center console. That bay ranger looks awsome!
Also, I fished with a guy down in florida last winter who had the power pole, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever! |

Location: Kodiak, AK | They're catching on.... Larry Dahlberg has one now. When I bought this boat from Sled he told me it was an oddity, but that every single person who had fished from it said, "wow! This boat really makes sense!" And it does. You can do just as you said, and fight a fish right down the side of the boat. You're standing as you drive so on big water your legs take the load and not your back. You're higher up so you can pick your battles in 3-4' seas, and you don't feel overrrun even in 5'ers (which is the biggest I've had this boat in). They're just awesome boats. Add that to this boat's configuration, which is a 620 hull with the bay interior and it's a hard-to-beat muskie boat. I love it. |

Location: minocqua, wi. | i had run a boston whaler dauntless prior to buying the boat that jeff got from me so i'd had plenty of time in a center console and really learned to love them and actually prefer them in lots of conditions. my complaint on the whaler was deck-positioning and power. then i saw this one ... LOL, i had to have it! it's a whaler on steroids and was an absolute blast to drive especially in rough stuff. the deck levels are that of a bass boat so working baits is easy and comfortable, but the depth of the bottom-half screams Big-Water Deep V. i'm glad it went to a guy like jeff who was able to put it in a place where it belongs on st. clair. the 200C was only built one year and has now become the line of bayrangers that i think start at 24' ... so this is truly a unique inland center console that get looks.
that thing gets up and flat so quick and easy it's crazy ... awesome boat!! someday i'm gonna get another ride in it!! :o) |

You just gotta show up Sled, and the boat ramp is five minutes away. We might even cast a few baits if you're so inclined...
This boat really is the best of both worlds. With it's 620 hull, it's rated to 225. But it's a loud hull with lots of chine slap. Which for muskies on LSC doesn't really matter, but for alot of species you'd target in a bay is no good-redfish, snook, tarpon.... So with their current line of dedicated bay hulls, they rounded the chines and made them quieter, but in the process lost hp rating. I think their current 20' bay is only rated at like 150 or 175. You have to go up to the 22 or 23 to get back to 225/250 hp. It'll hit 55 with a tail wind, but will cruise at 47-50 all day long and not even break a sweat. The Yammie 225 Sport is a perfect match for this boat. 20" shaft, and torque for days. It was Yamaha's first attempt at a four stroke bass motor. It's a big, heavy....well...."sled." She loves the 3'ers but will float in a foot of water (motor up).

| I've always kinda wondered why more guys don't opt for a center console. For big water it just plain makes sense. To me anyway... |

Location: Kodiak, AK | Seating is one issue. You can't comfortably troll or jig very well in this boat....which is fine as I don't do either. But seating is pretty much sitting on the casting decks. Storage is another, and I believe is one reason Jon sold it. It doesn't have "bass boat" storage like a true 620 does. |
