I know that the Canon and Nikon debate has taken place, as I read through it.

Time for me to get a new camera and I am leaning towards the Canon SX

Good price....I think....

So is it a good camera for what I'll be using it for??? 98% of the pics will be good ol' musky photos in the boat.

Thanks,

that should do the trick for fish pics in the boat just fine, Mike.
in fact, it's probably more than you need if that's all you're going to use it for. if you like Canon's, you might look at a high-end Powershot as a less expensive alternative if it's really going to be primarily a single-purpose boat camera.

i went with the Nikon D60, which has a similar base 18-55mm lens to the one you're looking at in the Canon. so far i've found this to be a versatile size portrait lens, as it can capture a nice wide field of view - ie., you can be quite close to the subject without cutting anything off on the sides. that's the perfect combination for fish pics: close for detail but wide angle to fit everything in. (keep in mind, the Powershot would accomplish this as well.)
it's got the Image Stabilized (IS) lens, which is a very good thing for in a boat.

if you're looking at an SLR for verstaility, i'd encourage you to consider getting a zoom lens to go with it, the 18-55mm won't zoom you in very far if you ever decide to stop and smell the roses for a moment and take a picture of something on the shoreline or whatnot. i got a 55-200mm for starters, and i'm already wanting one with even more zoom power.
there's a deal on that Amazon link you posted that knocks $100 off if you buy a 75-300mm lens along with it. not a bad deal at all.

For ease of use, good fish pics, waterproof, and a battery life that can handle cold weather, Pentax W60 takes great pictures.
Around $250 on Ebay.

That Canon is a good buy, Mike, and a great camera. We chose Nikon for the reasons I stated before for the OutdoorsFIRST cameras, but certainly wouldn't dis a Caonon...we have two Canon video cameras we use for tournament coverage.

I love my cannon powershot series for the boat. Great pics, easy use, long battery life, and compact. Put it in a pelican waterproof/crushproof case and your set.
