| I have 4 abu 66000 C3's and have had no problems. I am thinking about getting a new C4 66000. Is this better than the C3's or is there a better brand for an all purpose musky reel for less than $120?  |

Location: Hugo, MN | You'll probably hear this alot on this board, but the Okuma Induron IDX-400a is a good, solid reel, and doesn't cost a fortune. You can find them for around a hundred bucks, and get the free power handle from Mark at Okuma. Mine lasted all year without a single issue that wasn't solved by cleaning and re-oiling everything. On top of that, it pulls double tens just fine, and will throw just about anything in the box. I am very happy with mine, and the next reel I replace will be with an Okuma Induron. |

| I have two Okuma Indurons and have been very happy with them. Great reel, fair price, and unbeatable product support.

Location: Chicago | I've been using Curado 300 (Shimano) for the light stuff and Luna 300 (Daiwa) for the larger lures very happy so far. Also have a 6600 SSC3 that I use once in a while that is up to par as well. |

| for a few years i used abu's and they worked just fine for the dollars spent then switched to daiwa lunas 3 years ago but they are at twice the $120.00 price point you mentioned. being that i wanted to go from 5 rods ready-to-go in the boat down to three, the lunas in my opinion have been a good choice in handling everything very well. i have had absolutely no problems with them and i like the more heavy duty "feeling" that they give me vs. the abu's so the twice the money thing worked better for me. |

Location: Dixon, IL | I use 6500C3 for years! My son when he's 10 years old and he use 5500C3 for a few years until now he use 6500C3. 5500C is good baitcasting reel and small for kids that able to use. |

| there are folks that have their "do-all" reels while others are "reel-specific". i went from the "reel-specific" thing to the "do-all" reel thing and my three are luna 300's...4 years running and absolutely no problems other than self induced ones when i took them apart to lube and see what's inside (i can't leave anything alone...lol) and i did not put whatever exterior things back on tightly enough which came loose and ended up long gone! a quick email to daiwa customer service had those parts in my mailbox within 2 days at absolutely no charge!...gotta love that! with all 3 of my croix legend rods built by keith at proedge, one "mega swimbait" rod with 65lb ultracast, one "mega swimbait" rod with 80lb ultracast and one "big dawg" rod with 80lb ultracast (being built by keith as i type) will cover everything i need to throw! we spend as much coin as we want on various rod / reel combos and justify them all...it is what we do! |

| no one reel will do everything perfectly...depends on what you are throwing...if you are going to try and pick one reel to throw everything with, imo, about a 5.0 to 1 gear ratio is best,,,,something like a Shimano TE can do just about everthing, they make a killer power handle for that reel that is about the best made...
I have about 4 or 5 morrums that are old but still keep on ticking...probably the best reel ever made for general all around use imo...I tend to use reels that pick up a lot of line fast on big plastics like the 7000 iHSN, smaller / a bit slower reels like the TE/Morrums etc for cranks, topwaters, jerks etc..and super fast like the Trinidad for big 10s, or the opposite end like a Penn 975 for big 10s at nite....

what would be your (or others out there) recommendation for a split duty db10 / big plastic reel not over 13 oz's in weight in a left handed reeling model (i still don't understand why folks that are right power-handed / armed choose to use their weaker left arm to set the hooks with...lol)...

Location: Land of the Musky | I like my TE400 but the reel engages sometimes. I know I need to use a slightly heavier spring but have yet to get it. Love the reel! With that said, I am looking forward to trying the new and improved Okuma Red Isis! Can't wait to try that reel.

Location: Madison WI | It depends on how much you fish in my opinion, I had all abu's this past season 2 6400 c4's 1 5400 c3 and an 6400 ssc3 and I fished very hard this year and needless to say I have 2 reels left that work and one of them has parts from 3 different reels in it. If you plan on fishing alot the cheaper abu's just can't stand up to the task. Needless to say I am buying new reels this season most likely a calcutta TE 400, an induron and I might try out the new abu revo toro. |

Location: New Hope MN | I have a TE400 and it works pretty well. I didn't lube it this year and it's starting to make some odd noises (especially this fall). Super smooth and nice to cast. My drag is getting a little sticky, but that's my fault (dumped a coke can on it).
Don't C3's have that built in gear change? I had an Abu like that years ago and I hated it. The retrieval speed was always changing... |

Location: Hayward, WI | dtaijo174, I think a few Abu reels had that "automatic downshift" or whatever it is that you are talking about, but it certainly isn't all C3s. I'm pretty sure that feature isn't available anymore, and it's probably pretty rare to find one of the reels that had it now.
