It's been almost a month since I was on the water. The lake was in turnover then. Water was in the mid to low 50s. Nothing was happening for everyone casting. There was a boat that had two trolling the outside weed edges. They are drawing the lake down slowly this year. Its Warm today but the weather is supposed to be overcast with highs in the mid 30's this weekend. I am hoping to go again on the 11th.

| As of Sunday (11-30) the water was from 44-46 all over the lake. No warm weather in sight and had some cold rain and snow so I'd guess by this weekend it'll be in the low forties. I got a fat little 38" on turkey day and saw one more that evening. Saw 5 saturday, all in the mid 30" range and only saw 1 on sunday. Good luck. |

| IF the current weather holds that we have had for the past 2 weeks I'd expect ice in the bays/hollows soon. The creeks/streams near the cave have been in a pattern of froze/slush/froze for at least 2 weeks. I was over there 2 weeks ago and the temps were 44-45 then. very suprised some ice has not formed yet. We did pick up a small 31 incher that day. Been very very cold for this time of year . Sucks not to be able to fish the creeks in Nov.in the south Global Warming ? LOL MD |

Not good... but it was nice to get out.
Yesterday the water temps were 44* by the dam, and 40-41* in Warrix and Buck Creek.
Water levels are 5 ft.low, I basicily fished main lake shoreline, off of the weed edges and around wood, in 10-20 ft. of water....Hit the Hallows with no luck, and even spent a few hrs. casting mag.Dawgs and the pounder in the river chanels around some bait fish.
Saw only 4 boats in three days. I'll be back next week for my last trip of 2008.
Later, Jerome |

Location: Columbus, Georgia | Once the weather gets a little more stable, even though it will be cold (high 30's low 40's during the day except for a couple of weeks in January) ... the experts down here say that glide baits are the ticket, fished EXTRA SLOW, and you're fishing for one good opportunity per day.
I guess it beats watching a Musky video ... if you have the proper clothing, though I know that's a heatwave to you guys up in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Location: Medford, WI | Jerome, thanks for the report. Hope you have better luck next time out. Sounds like your Perkas should be a bood bait down there.
P.S. Want to email me some of the pics of your musky from when I was up there with you that were taken on your camera? I only have the one from my camera. Not sure if you know how to or not, but if so email them [email protected] please and also include your mailing address in there.
Thanks and good luck next time out.

Location: Palm Coast, FL | Was able to get to the Cave this past weekend. Friday water temps were 41. We boated 4 on jerk baits but no size to speak of. Saturday water temps were 40 and we got 3 more but again...no size to speak of. We did raise a couple nice fish (one low 40s and one upper 40's), but couldn't get them to open their mouths. |

I looked at the forcast and I can handle 30-40* temps.

Location: Grayson, Ky | the main lake is fine no ice at all, some of the bays do have a thin sheet of ice on them but nothing major, the forecast looks to turn for the better starting on thursday, but you should have no problem finding a place at the cave to fish, even if you want to fish some of the coves just bust the ice in them and if the wind is blowing out of the cove then it will carry the broken ice out into the main lake, good luck let me know how you do. |

Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | Well,
I drove about 5 hrs out of my way to fish for a couple of days but the Alfrie ramp was totaly froze and looking across Zilppo Flats it was also pretty much froze up.
Scotts creek ramp was open (last night) and about half way up to the dam, but still a lot of ice, so I diched any efforts to hunt any muskies for at least a few more weeks....... So it's back to work in N. Mn.

Yep, it's still Cave Run and water depths are running all the way from the bottom to the surface again, like usual this time of year, and the water has a temperature. Oh wait, this is my forecast for next week. Let's see, oops yeah, here it is, same for this week. Lucky thing Dan!

| Fished Saturday and today. Fished the main lake Saturday and got a dink first thing Saturday morning and popped a 30 incher early afternoon. Fished up in the river today and didn't see a thing. Need more water in the hollers to get the trap bite going. Both fish hit a trap.

Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | Jake and I went out last weekend (3/6 thru 3/9)
Water temps started 41-42* and ended up to 52* in some places. The water was a bit murky in some places, but wasn't bad.
I lost a couple of fish the first day and caught just 2 dinks but it was great to get out on open water.
Jake and I fished a lot of spring time spots, but the bigger fish just wern't there yet,....Shad were moving big time into the shallows, so I imagin the muskies will be following real soon.
We also hit some of the deeper points leading into the shallows without any luck..... Oh Well......... it was fun to be there with a good friend who pounded the water profusley(sp?) Big baits, small baits, didn't trick these Cave Run fish, this time but I'll be back in 2 weeks... So look out !

Location: Medford, WI | As Jerome mentioned, we pounded the water pretty hard for 4 days and just couldn't get much going. I always love catching muskies, but just getting out on the water and enjoying the warm, 70 degree weather was enough for me! Thanks a lot Jerome...we might not have gotten them down south this spring, but we'll get them on Vermilion this summer/fall; and maybe up in northern WI if you're able to make it!
Good luck in the tournament, those fish will be shallow as soon as the temps stabilize a little more in the low-mid 50's.

| Hi,
I was down there on Monday. It was beautiful. We managed to boat three smaller fish. One really small upper 20's and two in the mid 30's. Everything was shallow. Very shallow. As Jake and Jerome mentioned the shad were moving in by the middle of the day. The three we did get were caught after 11:30 and before 5:00pm. One fish was on a rattle trap and the other two were on baby depth raiders trolling on a short line. I wish I had more than one day but I was tied up in Cinn. Ohio on some buisness. I also feel the same as Jerome and Jake that its starting to heat up but its not quite there yet. |

| Trinity Trail guys had a one day tourney on sat the 29th. 24-25 boats . One team doubled with 2 30 inchers, 1 38, and a couple around 30-32. That was it for sat, but on sunday (weather was far colder) rivermusky boated a 40 and 32 as reported on a seperate thread. seems like sat would have been good, it was far warmer than sunday. I got the sat report 2nd hand so if it's off forgive me. MD |

Location: Cave Run KY. | 10 March 9:30 am 1st storm passed through. On the water and fishing the gravel at Clay Lick to the end(nothing). Around 11:30 am moved to Buck creeck hit the gravel at the front working our way to the back. Raised a small pup at the back(no taker) on a bucktail. Fished on through and around 3:30 PM made a pass back by the one I raised. Boated small 25"( better than nothing) not the worst day we've had on the lake. Around 20 mins. later headed back to the boat ramp, loaded the boat and away we go. Listening to the radieo on the way home. Tornado warning 2 countys away, tornado watches all around us and where we were, went through a hell storm on the way home about 5 miles from the ramp and we didn't even know all this was going on. It rained on us but nothing bad. Caught a fish, small but a fish and didn't even get wet. You talking about luck, the fishing God was holding us in his hand for sure. Went as far to put a fish in the boat so I would call it quits and head home, other wise I would be there till dark came and we would have got hit by the big storm. |
