i run 681 ranger , but it's been modified alot, it's originally a console boat, but it's now a tiller, i run a 115 merc tiller, the boats layout is really nice and spacious, it's real close in size and dimension to a 618 VS console boat, there are times i'd like a bigger boat, but most of my fishing is done on flowage type waters, and it's perfect for that, the reason for modifying it was basically because i could'nt find a tiller boat in that model, and when i started talking to guys who had tiller boats running 60 and 70 hp motors, they were claiming they were only getting between 27-30mph, not fast enough for me, i get some looks from people now and then, not bad looks, more like whoa!!, by myself i can run 48-51mph, and it's not hard at all to steer, maybe easier than my old 40hp, i've never had a worden give me any trouble, and it does have the original 115 badge on the boat, i would'nt recomend doing this though, it's a real pain, i would'nt do it again, to much wiring nightmares, it's good to go now, but i went through alot to do it, as far as the boat goes though, great boat, very stable, dry riding, and handles ''water'' quite well, awsome boat to fish out of too, not to big not to small, and these boats can be had quite reasonably, i'm not sure what year it took place, but the 681 turned into a VS model in the late 90's, i'm not sure of a specific date though, other than that, if you can find one reasonally priced, i don't think you'd be dissapointed .

I run a 2000 681vs single console. I love it. Fishes 2 great and while 3 gets a little cozy it can be done. Rod locker is huge. I have it powered with a 135 opti and have gotten 52 mph on the GPS with two guys, 3/4 tank gas, and gear.

i ran a 681 tiller a couple years back, with a 60hp Evinrude. i got 34mph consistently.
nice layout, decent amount of storage and elbow room for a relatively narrow boat and it fished quite well.

I have a 618 and wish I would have bought a 681 just because the rod locker is so much better for Musky Rods.

My 681VS is rated for 135 hp. I have the Opti Max. It also is a 1998 so that may make the difference.
